Hey all

I recently got a brandnew Fallkniven F1. What i immediately noticed was that the lamination line was uneven.

On the right side of the blade there is a larger area of the VG10 core thats exposed. Its a difference of about 3-4 mm which is clearly visible. The lamination line is also abit wavy but im not bothered by that.

Is this normal for a F1 or what? I mean other than looking bad i cant really see that it should interfere with the knifes function. This one is gonna be a user and not a safequeen, so what if theres abit more VG10 on one side? As long as it dosent interfere with the sharpening process it should be allright. What do you guys think, should i return it, contact Fallkniven or what?

After a 100 testshots these are the best pics i could get, sorry for the large size but i wanted them to be visible.

thanks guys

Mine looke more even, but imo it does not affect the perfomance. I like that knife:thumbup:

This is normal for laminated blades. It only takes a difference of a few thousandths of an inch on one side to cause the lamination line to move over. Sometimes that difference comes from the thickness of the laminated layers from the steel mill.

If it was even before grinding it could just be variations in the grind thickness. Happens to a lot of knives if you look close.

They do a better job than most.
Look at a Spyderco laminated blade if you really want to see some uneven lines.

The somewhat uneven lines are common.

The difference in depth of the lamination line is more pronounced on your knife than what I'm used to seeing.

I own several Fallknivens and it is not uncommon to have some difference in the depth of the lamination between the two sides of the blade.

As already noted, I don't think there is any reason to be concerned as far as performance/reliability goes, as long as the aesthetics don't bother you.

Fallknivens are not inexpensive knives, if you aren't pleased with this one, find out if your retailer will consider an exchange. (assuming you haven't sharpened it already)

Looks couldnt matter less cos in this case the F1 has been bought to be used.

My retailer has a 30-day no-questions return policy, but most posters so far have written that its a pretty common thing, so i dont think im gonna return it. I can live with it.

I have loads of laminated Fallkniven knives and some are really even, some are uneven. However it is just a cosmetic thing. You cut with the part in the "middle" and how far the lamination line goes from the edge does not matter. It does not in any way change the strength of the knife.

Damn good knife, my F1 3G has a smoother "line" than yours but this knife is not meant to be pretty. Its a serious beast and I think things like that all just add to the sexiness of it. Like you said, its a user not a safe queen. As for the elevation of 3-4mm, if it really bothers you, send it back, its your right and you MUST be happy with what you have otherwise it will always haunt you in the back of your mind. If not, after A LOT of use and sharpening, that should be taken care of naturally. Call is yours.

Thanks for the post. I have never purchased a knife with a laminated blade but I believe my daughter or wife is buying me an F1 for Christmas. It will be nice knowing what to expect so I'm not temporarily disapointed.

Thanks for the close up pictures. Nice looking blade.

None of mine are like that.
If it were me I'd ask Fallkniven..........

Well youre in for a heck of a christmas gift! The edge on this thing is wicked sharp and it just drips quality.

This question, about the perfect line, has been brought up before on both international and swedish Fallkniven forums. The answer is still the same. If you should just sell "perfect" knives the price would go up because of the high amount of "factory rejects" that actually are perfect in function but maybe not perfect to look at.
