my brother went to his shooting bench at his ranch this last weekend to test a 270. we keep 2 metal folding chairs there to shoot off the bags we sit in the table . as always we checked under table for wasps nests, & the chairs under which we often find scorpions had a fat black widow with a nest. we had used these 2 weeks back & did'nt expect to see this meanie. black widows defend their egg sacs to the death [an admirable parent] so we were glad for our vigilance. this venom is 50 times more potent than a western diamondback but she only injects a tiny amount but this can cause violet reactions requiring medical attention.a friendly reminder to pay attention to your surroundings. if a rattler buzzs from thick brush we never mess with them ; just go on our way since the snake will move on in short order. poking around in thick brush with a gun barrel or long stick is asking for a nasty surprise. hope all you keep safe, dennis

Yikes! A bite would be bad enough, but the thought of getting one near the nether regions...

Need to talk to Mick about the famous Australian Dunny Spider.

No kidding! Last week, my work shoes were soaked from a rain storm, so I put them on our backyard table to dry out in the sun. A couple days later I went by and one had some cobb webs inside. I had my leather gloves on as I was getting ready to do some work and used my hand to clear the webs and then I just turned both over and banged them together and a big'ol black widow fell onto the table! I was a little taken aback as I often just put my shoes on barefoot. My younger Army days always reminded me to cover AND check you boots (and shoes) before putting them on.
