Ahhhh, Grasshopper. Couldn't or wouldn't?
My wife has saved me from selling several "originals" from collections (original comic art, knives, etc) that I could never replace. I also have parted with things that I can never recover and deeply regret those decisions.
Dude, this was your first fixed blade. Back then we had discussions about putting hard earned cash into it vs. staying the course on a folder focused collection. I had the pleasure of seeing you take delivery at Blade and how happy you were. I couldn't, in good conscience, take this knife from you. Today, you have some mighty fine straight knives and I'm glad you expanded your knife collecting horizons.
Having said that...if you ever decide to sell it please don't forget me! I promise I'll come up with an entertaining contest that pits Joe "Canine" against me for ultimate possession (no, not mud wrestling in the parking lot at Blade after the cutting competition).
There is another forumite who offered me a Wheeler I really wanted badly. He is a great guy and wanted to return a favor. I had the knife in hand and as I held it I knew he must have wanted to keep it. We chatted and I sent the knife back to him. Would I love to have it, hell yeah. Would I feel good about it, no sir.
I guess the lesson here is to really consider the reason you acquired a knife in the first place and if there is meaning beyond steel and handle that it has for you. Once gone, hard to recover.
The attached is original art by my favorite comic artist that I came close to selling. It is a tribute piece to my wife. The cash offer was enticing but I am so glad I didn't sell it. Side note, she does not have a primitive warrior outfit like that but I'll bet Paranee has a skull that is close to the one in the pic!
