Sorry to call you out but I was wondering what kind of knife the one in your avatar is? I just got one today and I literally can't find any other picture of one but that. Also any info is greatly appreciated, thanks! p.s. not really interested in the value, just would like to learn more about it. :)

(I think DC and I were typing at the same time, he actually did a better job on the reply)

It's one of the three Schrade contract models from the late 60's. The first Buck stockman (301 sized) was a Schrade contract model made with grooved bolsters. The other two of that era had smooth bolsters, one had BUCK stamped on the reverse tangs of both secondary blades and one was not stamped on secondaries. Here is an old picture. The ones in the photo are 301 sized models. The quick Schrade contract ID on a old looking Buck stockman is to see if the 'swedge' (the edge rounding) on the top of the main clip blade extends OVER the long nail pull. On old Cami contract models it does not. 300

Cool! Thanks for the info, the one I have has the grooved bolsters. Had no idea it was that old, it looks like a brand new knife to me. I tried to post pictures but couldn't figure it out. The part that confused me (and the old guy I bought it from) was the grooves. There are plenty of pictures of the non grooved ones but unless you know what all the parts are called (which I didn't) It's pretty hard to find info. I'll pass it along next time I see him. Thanks! Can't wait until I find the next one!

Host your photos somewhere like photobucket, then just paste the direct link for the photo right in your post here :)

MW,

One thing on these Schrade contract Buck folders. As it shows in DCs referenced post, with extra heavy pushing and twisting of the blade you can slightly bend the blade pins and make them loose, Buck will replace them with new models but cannot repair. Regular wood carving and regular cutting of rope, garden hose, or other such things you will be fine...... 300
