Just got back from Blade Show and picked up a custom short sword that Jerry made for me. This thing is unbelievebly SWEET! If any of you have any of his knives, you know the deal.... It is a short sword very similar to his millennium machete and Espada with the hand-and-a-half handle only the blade on this one is a traditional style Japanese blade. There will be a picture posted shortly in the general forum under "My Blade Show Acquisitions". I will post a link here when it appears.

Me too! I just got my Espada from Jerry..its based on some input from me on what a Modern Arnis Bolo was/is..and Jerry showed that hes the best of the class with a stunning rendition in steel...
Hey Jerry... are you sure you're not filipino.????????
The balance is perfect..
He made the back edge rounded..perfect for bracing an incoming attack..its seconary cutting edge ( swedge or clip)is very sharp and the primary cutting edge is scary sharp..
Great attention to detail..
the handle is shaped withbirds beak to fit my hand..it really fits INTO my hand..
Its the best piece of custom steel that I own..
GREAT JOB JERRY!!!
I can't wait to see my Daga - knife companion piece...

If you do Filipino arts Jerry makes the best stuff..
Of course he makes great steel anyways of all kinds but his Filipino style tools are second to none!!!!

THANKS JERRY HOSSOM for making such great knives, swords & steel in general...

Amen to all of the above. I have an Espada light. It is a 19" blade that floats like a butterfly.

"...stings like the horn of a wounded cape buffalo."

--would be my follow-up to describe my Hossom 3V machete prototype, fondly dubbed "El Macho". Somewhat brutish perhaps, compared with Jerry's sweet swords, but an impressive long knife in its own right, IMHO.

Incredible blades in every sense.

Am not much of a sword fan, but am surely a Jerry Hossom fan. Someday, a fighter.

Anyhow, am also pleased to hear of any blade spine that has been finished/rounded. That's going to be one of my new theme songs. Ed Fowler -- I'll stop saying this soon -- says -- and I can't argue with him -- that a blade isn't finished if the spine isn't rounded. I think finishing the blade should become standard operating procedure on all knives.

Thanks Guys. Cam and Bram, I'm especially glad to know two warriors as yourselves like my work. That's what gets me into the shop each morning, trying to stretch that envelope.

Bugs, I'm sorry to say that neither of these swords have a "rounded" spine. Cam's Wakiazashi has a flat spine that was left intentionally so because of the way it is ground. Rounding the spine would have narrowed it, especially near the point. Bram's Espada has a semi triangular false edge extending back from the sharpened swedge area, more like bevels than rounding but it handles the same and hopefully achieved what Bram was looking for. With the Espada I can do that without compromising strength. Neither sword was made for show however; they are built for strength, handling and cutting capacity. My philosophy. I recently did an Espada Lite (19" blade, 17 oz.) in CPM-3V where I did remove a good bit of steel along the spine, but I would only do that with 3V.

All knifemakers are different; that's why there were 500 of us at the Blade Show. Something for everyone...

I had the great pleasure of swinging both Bram's and Cam's swords at the Blade Show and I second everything that they say. These latest swords from Jerry are such a terrific evolution from the original A-2 Espada prototype that I tested some time ago.

Cam's Gaijin Wakasashi with its hand and a half handle is balanced so well that it feels like you are swinging an 8" fighter. And, by simply shifting your grip back on the handle you instantly gain another 4" or so of reach- something that Laci Szabo also recognized instantly the first time he picked up his new hand-and-a-half Espada.

Bram's one-hand Espada is so wonderfully light and agile that it makes the original prototype- as good as it was compared to what existed at the time- seem heavy and slow by comparison.

Congratulations you guys

. I can't wait for my own hand-and-a-half Espada to be finished

Peace and good training,

damn Jerry..it sure seems rounded to me..But even if its not really rounded, it is a traingular shape that seems round so i can actually brace against it and deal with an incoming strike..ITS FANTASTIC..however its achieved!!!!

The choil area is big enough for me to do Palisi motions with it...as well as catch and disengage with it..
I LOVE playing with it..
hmm I guess I might have to get Jerry to make a second one so I can do Sinawali drills as well as Espada y Daga....

Jerry you are a MASTER sword n knife maker..
no ifs ands or buts about it!!!

I can't wait to start making Sinawali & Espada y Daga "HOW to"-step by step pictures with it in hand....

I edited this cause I saw I can't spell the first time around!

JERRY! JERRY! JERRY!

One of the Highlights of Blade 2001 for me was Jerry's table. In a room with all that great steel, Mr. Hossom's blades were the ones that got my heart racing!

Bram's Espada is awesome. Got to play with it a bit before he did.

Love the feel of Gaucho's duelist as well. The only difficult thing is trying to decide what to order. The one's I wanted were already sold.

They all have a great feel to them.

Jerry, as soon as I decide an email will be on it's way.

Steve

Thanks Steve, and after what you said here I feel badly about what I'm about to say.

I'm not at the moment taking orders. With the show season on me, being way behind on the orders I have, plus needing some time to work on new designs I've just had to put off taking more orders until I get through the pile some. Hopefully by year's end I'll be back in business.

I'm grateful for the support and am working hard to deserve it. Thanks again.

No worries. I'll have more time to decide/plan what I'd like. (don't know if that's good or bad

)

I wanted to order a blade that I could pick up at next years Blade show anyway. Hope that is enough lead time.
smile.gif

2001 Blade was my first knife show of any kind. Now I'm hooked!

Just let me know when I can put in an order.

Steve

Steve...

The only sensible and mature thing to do in a situation like this is to do what I did- order one of everything
biggrin.gif
. That way you'll always be prepared, no matter which way the Spirit moves you.

BTW, it was a real pleasure to finally meet you at the Show. As a physician though, I was a little concerned by how frail you looked. Have you considered starting a work out regimen- maybe doing a little weight lifting?

Sadly, I finally wanted to make the leao when I saw the beautiful Bronco Camp Blade, and Jerry wasn't taking orders
frown.gif
But on a good note, it allows me to save the $ for it
smile.gif
! Jerry, your work is unbelievable, and it was nice to be able to speak to you in person at a show a couple years back. My piggy bank is growing for that Camp knife!

Mario,

It was nice meeting you as well. You should meet my "baby" brother with the 600 pound bench press.

How about keeping the Duelist in your doctors bag to freak out the odd patient?

Jerry,

Hope you'll be taking orders again very soon. The wait will be tough. You have a fan base that is growing exponentially.

The more time Jerry takes off to create, the more compelling his designs become, the more fans join our legion, the more demand, the less time to fill the demand, forcing him to take more time off to create...such a vicious circle.

Hi Jerry, you are getting famous. May I still talk to you, once in a while?
Congratulation & happy sharpening
