I just recieved my Rescue Jr. that I ordered. This knife looks tough. Has anyone tested the lock on this knife or knows how many pounds can it hold until the lock gives in? Cold Steel claims that one of their small folders can hold up to 100+lbs on the knife before the lock gives way. Any ideas? This will be for heavy cutting use (emergency rescue) and I would like to know where it stands.

Even though the search function is still unavailable you might try looking through old posts from the last 3-4 months. There was quite a bit of discussion about the lock strength testing done by Spyderco. No exact figures, but IMHO I'd say the Spyderco lock will hold up at least as well as the Cold Steel ones. Plus you can actually resharpen Spyderco serrations!

Plus if ya can't re-sharpen them yourself, Spyderco will resharpen them at no cost. Cold Steel won't resharpen their serrations for any price!

IMO, I don't like Cold Steel one bit. I'm Spyderco all the way. I just wanted to know how well this knife can hold up to the other brands. From how I see it, it looks pretty beefy. PLUS, you can sharpen it. Let the good times roll.....

I can't remember exactly the figures posted but I think they went from 100 to 400 in.lbs of torque applied at 2.4 in from the pivot. During normal cutting its hard to put any great amount of stress on a blade as the material tends to seperate. I have used my Calypso Jr. for awhile now on hard plastics, woods and wire and such and its lock has not given out and I would assume its one of the weaker locks.

My main concern would be if I was under stress (or whatever) and used the blade in a hurried manner say if it got stuck on a deep cut and I jerked on it. I would not carry the Calypso Jr. for that reason for emergency use.
