I got one of the cheaper $390 "ugly" onesThose are incredibly beautiful!
Most of the "stone" custom 112s I have are made from reconstituted stone. Not that there is anything wrong with that because it does offer better stability. But this one is cut from a chunk of real jasper from a mine in Idaho. I didn't realize how expensive jasper was, but the maker said that he got a good deal on the stone from the mine owner. Usually, the stone needed would by itself cost $500 - which is quite hard to fathom. But to be honest, I prefer red jasper.Truly beautiful. Make a awesome addition to a collection! hate to think of actually using them but that's just me. Those handles are something to behold.
Interesting Happy. Certainly makes for a beautiful blade but being a vintage guy in age prices of quality blades still shocks me. Recall buying a bowie knife for under $3.00 back in the mid-sixties that was stamped Solingen with a 6 inch blade. Probably carbon steel blade. Also recall buying a P.I.C. hunting knife with bone handle for under $3.00 at a sporting goods store. Thankfully held onto that Puma Skinner I really went all out for by spending a whopping $25 back in 67. Times sure have changed! I think I saw that the 112's are also referred to as 110's in descriptions.I got one I liked, but just a head's up. Make sure to zoom on the image if your device shows it tiny. The description seems to always describe it as a 'drop point' even if the image shows a clip.
The easiest way to tell them apart is that the 112 has a "finger guard" built into the front bolster and the 110 doesn't.It's tough, also, when the blade doesn't always specify the model and the collector card text is cut off. For example, #42 has an interesting split color pattern on the handle, but I couldn't tell from the blade stamp if it was a 110 or a 112. And, the card text isn't visible either.
Great! Thanks. I hadn't noticed that before, but I'll use the excuse that I only have the 110s so far as my first 112 has not yet arrived (they're in route). The easiest way to tell them apart is that the 112 has a "finger guard" built into the front bolster and the 110 doesn't.
I think I'd rather get pieces from other customizers and in colors I like better. I am getting a red agate one from Eric Stokes on which I have high hopes. If you really want to flesh out your collection, you may need to order more than one as both DP and Clip are available.![]()
So very tempting![]()
I had thought about that. For the cost of these, you could get 2+ customizing on the Buck site. I had not yet looked into other customizers and the fanciest I have ordered from Buck so far are the standard S30V models. But, I do like the look of these. So, I ordered an ugly 112 DP to go with my 110 Clip. I'm done now. You folks can have the rest.I think I'd rather get pieces from other customizers and in colors I like better.
