Attn Michigan Makers

I am not sure what to make of it. It seems to contradict itself. In one section it prohibits the sale and manufacture of almost any multi edged fixed blade, but in the other section it seems to exempt legitimate sale and manufacture. Either way it is a real problem as it dangerously expands the law from the old "Dirk, Dagger or Stilleto" thing. Rest assured that it is left vague intentionally in order to bend the law to fit almost any circumstance they see fit.

Depending on how they interpret it, consider this- any body preparing to get their ABS mastersmith rating could be guilty of a 5 year felony! Transporting it to Atlanta makes you a felon, until you reach the state line.

Here is a link to the page that lists all of the MI Representatives so that anybody reading this can find out who to contact:http://house.michigan.gov/find_a_rep.asp

I can see it now, a year after this goes into effect there will be reports on how crimes involving knives have increased- they will fail to tell you that they made a huge group of law abiding citizens into criminals with one stroke of the pen.

And since this falls under the "carrying concealed weapons" laws, can you think of any reasons why those who opposed our new "Shall Issue" permits would like to see an increase in the violation of weapons laws? HUmmm

Man you gotta love it. :barf: Seems like they changed it to incorporate a "multi bladed device." Whatever that is. Maybe they are looking to press charges against peopl that cary leatherman tools???? Who knows?

All I know is I have already been charged with carrying a concealed weapon. It was a 5 inch boot knife that was in my truck. Plead down to some stupid misdemeanor instead, no problem, but I wouldn't have beat it with out using a lawyer.

Maybe the state is just looking for more ways to increase revenue by going after the multi tools and multi bladed pocket knives.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention. I've already fired off my letter to my representative. Sucks to know I could be thrown in jail for carrying my swiss army knife, or Leatherman. "I'm just a good ole boy, never meanin no harm. Guess I'll be in trouble with the law til the day I disarm"

Hopefully the system works, and this doesn't get passed. I have family I visit up there. I wonder If I should contact them about this.

we have some real winners here in MI. 2 or 3 years ago they passed the shall issue bill which states, anyone that has not been convicted of a felony can have a concealed pistol lisence. just recently they lifted the ban on high capacity magazines for guns. This means that I can carry my .9mm with a 30 round magazine, "which would be rediculos" pretty much anywhere I want. But I cant carry my petty little kershaw leek or my gerber multi tool anywhere.
I have seen on the news or in the news paper more than once that someone was stabbed to death by a steak knife. Why don't they ban steak knives? When will this bull$#!^ nanny stuff end?
