Ok, lately I have been fascinated by pocket pry tools. I am not sure why, I think it has something to do with having a small chunk of steel with me at all times ready to be beaten on. That is it's design and function, and that is great to me. Is it useful... sure, not everyday, but most. I can say some days I use my pocket pry bar more than my blade. Mr. Atwood has had me looking at his work quite a bit lately. So what I would like to do is narrow down why I like his work and concept, so much? Maybe others could share there thoughts on this pocket pry bar concept. Thanks

p.s. Pics are great!

I have an original, it works great, is very handy and I take it everywhere (I travel internationally), but I think the new designs have become way too "artsy" and have lost sight of the original functionality purpose, and prices have skyrocketed.

If you can, find one of the original ones.

The Atwoods are great pieces of work. While for me, most are nice to look at, I found the Prybaby and Poltergeists the most useful. The only disappoinment I find in them is the bottle opener. My $4 dollar Shard opened bottles better and I think it is due to the bend it has. It takes me 3 or more tries to get a Redhook open with an Atwood.

I'd suggest looking at JDR Knife and Tool. I have the Makemake in Ti, it's great, and less expensive than Atwood's. It opens bottles quite well and is light.
Also, even cheaper is the PocketToolX stuff, well some of it is.
Both are inspired by Atwood, just depends on what you want.
TOPS Knives also now makes a mini Pry Knife, but it's 3/8" thick.

I like them because they are so small, not enough length for serious prying, but a large prybar is too thick for small jobs. And, I like beer!

I just got an Atwood summer weight G5 Prybaby with the vintage stamp directly from Peter. Great guy, and he makes an excellent product. I will have to look at the other ones here too.

Makes unique urban jewelry too.

I like the idea of a prybar/multitool like that. Actually just got myself a Schrade Titanium Pry Tool. I'm sure it will see much use
