I've always appreciated high end audio equipment. Anybody else into it? What kind do you have? Here is mine.

Krell Balanced 300/600 W. Power Amp.
Krell preamp.
Krell 24bit CD player.
Vienna Acoustics 4 oh. Beethoven speakers.

I dig it too:

Lexicon MC-1 Processor
Sunfire Cinema Grand amp
Martin Logan Logos (center channel)
Martin Logan SL3's (front)
Martin Logan Aerius i (rear)

It's fun, but if I had it to do over again, I don't think I'd spend quite so much :)

Kinzli..I know what you mean about spending so much on the equipment. Those Martin Logan speakers are awesome. They operate different then most vented speakers and they sound great. I was once thinking about getting them but changed my mind.

Yes, the Martin Logans are electrostatic hybrids (electrostatic panels for midrange and high frequencies) and woofers for the lows. They're very critical of components, and are a low impedance load which means you must have a good quality amp to drive them. They do sound awesome though once they're set up right (they're also critical of positioning) - the midrange and highs are unbelievable and vocals sound intense. Imaging is amazing. It's like a wall of sound rather than point sources. I'm running them with Sunfire's subwoofer, which is another amazing piece of machinery. I can't believe how that little box shakes my house, literally.

I heard them over at Harvey's Audio. They have very high end equipment there. He played them with top of the line Mark Levenson equip. I thought the ceiling was comming down . My speakers are low impedance also. They are 4 Ohms. Less resistance.

Integrated Amp: Rega Mira - '99

Speakers: North Creek Rhythms. DIY towers. Mahogany veneer, 1/2" poplar edges with roundover - gorgeous and they sound great. Took me way too long to build though.

ACI Titan II subwoofer.

CD Player: Rega Planet - '99

Turntable: VPI HW19 Jr.

Rega RB300 arm.

Denon DL-103D MC cartridge.

Sowter 6864 1:12.5 High Z Cartridge Transfomers in a Hammond ABS project box.

Tuner: Marantz Model 112 tuner with wood case - a real beauty - circa 1975

Custom DIY acoustic paneling. DIY speaker cables. About 500 LPs and about 500 CDs.

Fun hobby. I picked up everything used or built it myself. :)

I'm not as into it as my relatives are.
They love their krell's, and from what I've seen great customer service and interaction.
my bil just picked up a krell ksa250 for 2k used, has a ksa100 since the seventies and wants the ksa150.
he has the Advantage cd player from sweden, no pre amp along with 2 advantage mosfet monoblocks.
I get their hand me downs which I am grateful. I got a pr. of soliloquy's monitors from my bro. I don't think he's going to give me his Sound lab electrostatics, though. I see it's a disease with them, they're always looking for new stuff to buy. they just buy, never sell, he has 6 Quad panels in his shop that's really dusty but he's not willing to sell anything.

6 Quads?? That would be quite the score if you could convince him to part with those. Are they stacked in 3's? Wow.

Rega Planet 24 bit CD player.
Rega Mira integrated amp.
B&W 602 speakers.
Rega interconnect and speaker cables.
Components are sitting on Atacarma Static Stage isolation platforms (best couple of hundred dollars I've ever spent on audio equipment).

nope, not stacked together, just panels of which he was eventually going to redo the wood casing/trim. he's a custom furniture/cabinet maker.
We looked up the guy on audiogon that refurbs quads and it was not worth it for him to sell them. I think the guy's name is Quad's Unlimited. very nice stuff.

I just inherited this past week a very nice McIntosh receiver dating from about 1990 from my father-in- law. He was always a high end audio guy and once owned one of the very first stereo systems back in the late 50's or early 60's. Anyway, the receiver is digital, has inputs for a CD player and pushes 75 watts per channel. I immediately retired my old 1980's Onkyo receiver and hooked this one up. I've got an NAD CD player and Paradigm Mini Mark II speakers so while not quite in the leagues of you fellers above, it sounds damned good to me! :)

I used to have McIntosh equipment. There excelent and built like a tank.

I fooled around with high end audio for 40 years and one day I just gave it up. I sold the equipment, replaced it with some simple British components and have lived happily since. Now I can enjoy the music without having to worry about the equipment. It is true freedom.

Nice Steinberger...What amp you running that on?

Paul

That's my brother's guitar - sort of on long term loan. I noodle around on it from time to time through a dinky little Fender Reverb 25. I also have a fake fender fretless jazz bass and an Ibanez bass that is fretless after the 12th fret (which is pretty damn cool :) ) The Ibanez has a through-the-body neck and active eq.

I'm glad I discovered simple British components early on. They make listening to music easy and beautiful.

The British make some of the best speakers. B&W come to mind. But when you want really high end electronics it's hard to beat American made ones.

Can't afford that BAT and Krell stuff so I'm on the cheap with Maggie 1.6's and an Odyssey Stratos.

Rega and Naim provide what I want at a price I am prepared to pay. I'm not sure I'll ever be able to convince myself that the cost versus quality equasion on high end American stereo is worth it. If I bought stereo that good I'd have to buy a lot less knives, and that's just not going to happen.

I've listened to some awesome stuff, but never been able to afford it! Living quite happily with an Audiolab 8000 CD player, 8000S integrated amp and a set of danish Audiovector M1 Super speakers.
