I have obtained aurora pop ups on my computer. Ad aware doesn't seem to take care of it. Neither does spybot nor microsoft anti-spy. Any suggestions?

damn all people who "make" (or however they are created) popups of any kind.

curses on them X 1000.

I think I got rid of it. Pretty ingenious program. The program is called nail.exe and it is saved in the windows folder. Deleting it does no good because it regenerates itself. The program that regenerates it changes its name. The company that made this popup program will give you the fix, but in using the uninstall you agree to let them put something on your computer that will give them info. Their uninstaller is called mypctuneup. I would not recommend using it.

Here is what I did:

It seems to have worked for me.

I'd call your state Attorney General about this. This is utter extortion, even downright blackmail. Basically, they're holding your PC hostage and forcing you to accept their spyware as a ransom to get rid of their adware.

Some of these spyware programs are extrememly malicious. My work computer has Microsoft Beta, Spybot, Adaware, and Spydoctor as well as google pop-up remover. None of these programs have eliminated the more obnoxious pop-ups even though all the spyware removers are continually updated.

I recently read an article where people are buying new computers simply because spyware is obstructing their ability to use their computers and they are unable to remove this kind of crap.

I am usually against government interference in internet communications but these trojons, worms and unwanted spyware should have the offenders spend some jailtime to rue their hijinks and hijacks.

The computer is also an important tool in interstate commerce transactions and the FTC should step up its efforts to enforce prosecutions.

I usually don't like the class action lawsuits, but in this case I say go for it. I emailed the firm to see if I can still get in. I hope this lawsuit is successful in shutting these guys down.

Class action lawsuits are only good when no individual is able to get much out of the offender on their own, but they still all want the offender to pay up...at least to lawyers. Better than letting those bastards get away completely :)

A number of these companies that put out this malicious advertising software make "removal" tools which completely fail to work. There are quite a few "spyware removers" that actually install spyware on your machine. I had a comprehensive list at one time.

Ad-Aware, Spybot and the host of other tools don't always work. Sometimes spyware will actually prevent these tools from running. The only solution I've found that always works is to change the permissions on all of the components of the malicious software. You must have Windows 2000, XP Professional, or alternatively XP Home booted into Safe Mode. Remove all of the permissions so that even the system cannot read the files and reboot. Restore permissions so you can delete the files.

The problem is identifying all of the files involved. Sometimes there are several executables loading. If you miss one you must start over.

PITA~! that's what they are.. In the past I have had to redo my system with a full fdisk to clean it and rid it from the Exe files.. .. I hope they get there A$$'es sued off..

True with Mozilla or other alternative browsers. The sad thing is most of you (including myself) most likely have programs on our comps that we dont even know are there.
I use a program called Peer Gaurdian , basically an ip blocker , there are two programs on my comp that I have no idea of how I got them that are constantly trying to send info out , they are very , very difficult to remove aside from possibly hosing your registry but at least PG blocks thier attempts at getting out.
I am not for any sort of government or legal control over the internet period.
I guess pop ups and assorted crap is something we have to deal with...
