A quick question: how do you currently consider AUS-10 (which I take it is equivalent to 440C) as a core steel for a laminate? (taken to ~60 rockwell).???

I ask because I am thinking of making a cleaver for that friend of mine who I shared with you a preparation of a (big!) chinese meal. He liked the cleaver I had (VG10 core) .... but that blank kit is no longer available. Amazon has a cleaver blank available .... San Mai with outer damascus, and inner of AUS-10. I know in the past 440C was considered reasonable .... but what is current thinking? Still reasonable if that is what you have/can get???

(I dont think he will even notice the 60 rockwell - if I know him he is still using his original ordinary carbon blade .... probably something like 52-55 rockwell max......)
