AUS8A is pretty good stuff. A good compromise for the factories. Takes and holds an edge better than the 420HC or 440A or 425M that a lot of factories use. Not too hard that they have a lot of trouble machining it, grinding or finishing it either. Supposedly, it is a lot less expensive and easier to heat treat than ATS34 too. I have never had any complaints with any knife that used a AUS8A blade. Yes, there is better steel, but not without spending a lot more.
