I'Ve been on a Dragonfly kick lately. Just picked these up and noticed the aus8A, and can only find speculations about it. Anyone really know when and any other info about it? or did i get a really good fake?20130515_125839.jpg20130515_125935.jpg

Not fake. They were first made in G2 aka GIN-1 then AUS 8 and then moved to VG-10

It is a first gen in the sense of the blade shape not steel.

There is no difference they are the same

Well Aus8 is still a nice steel, not much competition for VG10 or anything like that, but it is much better then I hear so many people say about it.
I have wanted a Dragonfly for a while, I am going to get the H1 Salt version at some point to use as a sailing knife.

I concur - definitely looks legit. AUS8 takes a really good edge very quickly - but unfortunately, it doesn't keep the edge that long. If you like sharpening and don't mind tuning up the edge regularly, AUS8 is an solid cutlery steel.

if you you look up aus8 in ankersons steel test in the knife review section it held an edge just as long as vg-10 and sg2 it's a really good steel. it was a cold steel recon 1 so the heat treat might be different than spyderco.

I tried posting earlier but I dont think it worked. I think the extra A is just to say it was annealed by the manufacturer. Please correct me if Iam wrong.

aus8a is a great steel.. it's what cold steel uses mostly nowadays. CRKT uses a TON of Aus8 but im not sure if they use aus8a. blade steel to me isnt as important as long as there is a proper heat treat involved, the heat treat is everything and i'm gonna go out on a limb and say that if spyderco used aus8a they treated it right. It keeps the cost down using "inferior" steels. thats why BUCK uses 420hc most of the time, they get the heat treat right though making their knives very affordable

They are not particularly collectible or valuable if that's what you're asking.

You know the molded clip-its are just cool. Those have their roots in the earliest modern pocket knives, with clips that is.
