Aus6 vs 440a

You'll be hard pressed to tell a difference in use. I've had both perform well, though if I must make a choice, I'd take AUS-6. No real performance reason. I've had more knives with it and pushed them harder. My 440A is limited to kitchen knives, so they just don't see the same uses/abuses.

me2 is is pretty much correct. But I would add that much depends on who did the heat treat.

Personally, I like 440A slightly better. I've gotten very good service from the Rough Rider slip-joints I have. The ones I've checked are 57-58RC. The AUS6 I have tests just slightly less at 56-57RC.
