How careful must you be with AUS8 as far as corrosion resistance is concerned?
I have a Dragonfly, the first AUS8 knife I have used. I went to the beach for a few days and when I got back I noticed two small dark spots on the blade. I can't get them out. They are just barely noticable. I use VG10, S30V, 440C and have never gotten stains like this.

My experience is that AUS-8 is better than VG-10 in rust resistance. I carry my Rescue 79mm IWB and it will show signs of pitting after a week or two. I have to coat it with Tuf-Glide on a weekly basis during the summer. I used to carry my Endura w/ VG-10 RFP and after several weeks it too showed signs of pitting. OTH, I carried a CS El lobo IWB for about three years with only a couple of coatings. After the first two years I did notice a pit, but compared with my VG-10 knives I'd have to say the AUS-8 worked better in that area.

Thank you for the follow up.

Lub - Militec Cro. Rest. - forehead oil.

I have used VG10 a lot, with no problems, so I have to conclude that I got my AUS8 blade into contact with something I don't usually. I must be more careful.

For what it's worth, I have a few AUS-8 blades by different manufacturers, I do not baby them, I have had zero rust or rust spotting issues with them.

If you are going to spend time at the beach, i would suggest something with H1 steel.

As far as AUS8, i have never experienced and problems with it, it will rust eventually but IMHO it is a bit more resistant to rust than VG10 or S30V. As mentioned above a good coating of oil should do the trick.

Polished AUS-8 resists corrosion relatively well. HOWEVER, bead blasted AUS-8 cannot resist corrosion worth a damn. If you plan to carry bead blasted AUS-8 in your pocket, be prepared for some staining unless you do not perspire.

I was too lazy to find a steak knife one night and cut my steak with a Cold Steel Scimitar with AUS8 steel. It has a stain on both sides to this day, no matter what I do. No experience with corrosion on it, just thought I'd throw my 2 cents in.

I have an AUS8 folder that I abuse for any task. I have gotten some staining but nothing a little elbow grease and a scoth brite pad won't take care of...

It does scratch up the finish though which may be unacceptable to you.
