Hi Guy's , im looking to aquire an 165OT if anyone has surplus in their hands.
all so , this may be a good question for fello Aussi Larry, here in Aus did we get much of the full range of Schrades out here , ive been in to knives all my life and dont recal ever seeing a comprehensive range in any one place or more than a few of the stockmans, the king of knives retail stores have always had OT's but only a few at a time.

G'Day Paul, We did not get the complete range of fixed blades or any Special Editions out here in Oz due more to lack of demand and ignorance of their quality I feel plus if you have ever bought say an Old Timer 8OT for example from an Aussie fishing tackle store they were invariably in a glass case under lock and key with prices to match their rarity status.I have bought the majority of my collection from striking up friendships with US Sellers/Collectors direct.. plus of course Ebay.I've generally seen comprehensive range of UH and OT folders only out here but because they didnt sell because their pricing was too high I think they created their own lack of demand. The one exception is the LB8/LB7's Series which were offered to farmers through the stock firms.Quite often I see a farmer pull out an ageing LB8 to cut bail twine or whatever and when I tell them its a Schrade LB8 they are using they invariably say a what from what?
There are currently at least 5 genuine USA 165OT's being offered on the Bay.Just key in Old Timer 165 in search.Watch out for those dreadful cheap nausiating clone Chinee 165 New Timers with the box made of stronger cardboard than the sheath.....I have to date never met another knife collector in my life we're a bit isolated in the Colonies aren't we.
I notice you're from the Riverland...I lived in Loxton in the Riverland for 4 years in my other life as a Bank Manager years ago.... Hoo Roo

thanks larry , I too other than my father seldom meet other knife enthusiests, although as you know most blokes around the rural area all carry 1 pocket knife and before the gun nazi's started all had a 12G behind their back seat.I remember when i finished year 1 primary school the teatcher gave me back 4 pocket knives "and please dont bring them back", when i started school i thought everyone carried a folder. i guess its what you are brought up with,in my early years the whole family were avid sotlighters target shooting and fishing, what else do you do in the country. if i was caught at school today with a knife id be a Terrorist, not a boy scout.
getting back to OT's my old man recals the one place 'where he purchased his 61OT 20 y ago was in tamworth at a leather shop and the old guy had most of the folders and made pouches for them all, Dad's still using both his,
Thanks for the info Larry

Glad to see such an interest in the quality of the old Scharde knives in the Down Under.
It's too bad more Americans didn't realize the value in what we had here.
