Aussie Axemen

Wonderful, thank you. It is really interesting, and humbling, to see all the work, the craft, the precision and the ingenuity involved to build such a "simple" design. So much that we take too easily for granted these days.

Very nice.

Btw, I'm almost convinced the only non-poisonous living things in Australia are trees. But I'm not so sure they don't in fact conspire to kill you in their own way. That would explain why the few guys from Australia that used to write here (mostly before I took an interest in the subforum) are no longer contributing.

I went to the zoo the other day and heard a talk from a reptile expect about the difference between poisonous/venomous. I always thought snakes and spiders were poisonous which is incorrect. His explanation went something along the lines of: "venomous creatures bite, sting or stab you to inject their venom whereas you have to ingest, inhale or touch a poisonous animal/plants secretion to receive their harmful effects." I had never really thought about it before but it makes a lot of sense, I thought it was fascinating.

I never even made the distinction between the two (especially since English is just a language I've learned in school) - which is superficial, since, of course, they are not the same. Thanks a lot!

What kind of tree were they using?

I won't replay the video, but it said it was some kind of ash. Very nice, straight grain. I just liked how it yielded to their tools(with all due respect for their craftsmanship). It is a good watch, well worth your time.
