Anyone know a public shooting range in the Austin area(+/- 49 miles). I'll be spending Thanksgiving there with family.

Bob I know of one in Austin I know there are more but I don't know about them. I can give ya directions. Do u know ur way around austin?

best range in the area is hill country rifle range on hamilton pool road. it is the best bar none.

the only con is the owner is a little strange, but i have known richard a long time and he never is a pest to me, but other people, look out!!!! imho he is the only reason the place isnt more popular........

travis county sheriffs shoots there, or did the last time i was there, about 6 months or so.

eagle peak is at beat ok, and the owners there are a little quirky also, imho (what is it about people who own/run ranges????)

reds indoor is closed for remodeling right now (?????)

then there is the range on 290 towards elgin, it is ok also, but usually crowded, and 200 yards is the longest range......

so imho hill country is the way to fly beacuse:

*300 yard range w/iron targets, lots of fun for AR/AK/etc plinking

*lotsa iron targets to blast on the pistol range

*very pretty area, layed out well, clean

*not overly crowded on weekdays

and richard, though a little eccentric, is a good guy at heart imho, always nice to me. i feel like i own the place when i go.....

tell richard jeff and greg sent ya (tell him jeff and greg, the ones w/the helicopter, he'll know who ya mean, i promise, lol)and dont mention i said he was eccentric either

helicopter?? another story, lol, but honestly he knows us.....

Reds had a large selection last time I was there. I haven't been there for a couple of years. Kinda pricey though.:)

If someone can give me directions to Hill I'd apreciate it very much.
I'll be starting at Ben White and Congress. I should have said this will be hand guns only.

There is a monthly Gun Show here in Austin. There are several knife dealers there. One, in Particular is excellent. Good prices. GREAT selection. MANY CUSTOMS. Pretty much ALL productions. Usually sold out of CRK's, but fully stocked w/ MT's. DEFINATELY worth the $5 admission. 3rd weekend every month. You'll see the sign on the EastBound access Road of 290 East off of the corner of 290 and I35.

directions to hill country......

you have to find hamilton pool road, its in north west travis county, go to hamilton pool road, go left (? ya can only go one way soo,,,) and its on the left about 8-9 miles, right before the hamilton pool park, if ya see that, ya have gone to far. call richard and see when he's open, during the week if its slow sometimes (not now w/deer season, etc i'm sure) he will lock up, but if ya call and he knows ya are coming not a prob, and he is closed sometimes on tuesdays, i think.

his # is - 264 1693, and he could give better directions, its one of those deals were i could drive you right to it, but dont remember the road #'s/etc

have fun, i'm going next monday i think, and i promise, its not hard to find........
