I'm visiting Australia this year for 3 weeks and I wanted to know legal size, concealment, and assisted opening laws. I wouldnt want to get there and have my knife taken and I also dont want to leave it at home. Ill mostly be East coast, Sydney and up and down that area. Also i wondered about multi tools, legal or not? it would either be a Leatherman Surge or a SOG Powerlock 2.0 EOD. Thanks in advance for any help.

SOGlover...Having lived here (Australia) all my life I can answer at least two of your concerns.Firstly all spring bladed knives (auto or assisted) are banned from entering Australia without an appropiate permit....and they are not easily obtained.By law you cannot even carry a knife in most Australian states unless you have probable cause...(eg)fishing ,hunting or work related needs.Major bummer eh? Double edged blades are out of the question too...unless you have proper permit.Blade sizing doesn't seem to pose any legal probs. here and the multi tools will be cool here as well...as long as you do not walk the streets with them as they contain a knife.Don't leave any knives in your car as they will be considered a concealed weapon unless once again it happens to be sport or a work related purpose. Personally I would try and leave your knife at home...Hope this helps a bit mate...cheers Ross
