I was wondering if any of you (excluding the Aussies) have visited Australia and "Gone Bush"
If so, did you have a good time?
Anyone planning a trip downunder in the future?
Plenty of wide open country down here and the outdoors is a way of life for many. It can be a harsh environment when you get away from the popular camp grounds etc.

always wanted too, but all the nature shows gotr me thinking that just about everything down there is poisonous

But mate they are all shy things.
The Snakes are shy ( I think 9 of 10 most poisonous in the world) but not the most aggresive, they are lethal but laid back.
The Spiders are shy.( except Funnelweb)
Even the Duck Billed Platypusses are shy.
Unless you upset them.

Its the Marine creatures that are too dumb to be shy that get you.
The Box Jellyfish
The Irikangi Jellyfish
The Blue ringed Octopuss
The Sea Snakes
The Stone fish and his mates
The biters that see you as a meal are the ones to be aware of.
Large Crocodiles
Sharks of all types, especially Tigers, Bull Sharks and Whites.

Seriously about 3 people a year die from Snake or Spider bite, mainly young or old people.
Sharks and Crocs take about 4 a year and the Crocs only take naive tourists in the main.
Lots more Drowned especially Asian tourists that have never seen big Surf.

come over to the west mate heaps of work atm good pay up north 1500 AUD a week after tax :) about.

on the mines mate that can be just driving a truck/operating machinery all day

1500AUD is about 1115USD

I fell in love with an Aussie nurse when I was about 19, wish I would have taken her up on seeing her out there.

Australia and South Africa are my top two priorities once I save up enough money.

Always wanted to travel the Dingo fence.
Hope to get down under before I am to old to enjoy it.
Want to check out New Zeland as well

well im from aus. never been bitten, stung or attacked by anything. probably helps i live in sydney. But in all my camping trips Ive never seen a deadly spider or crocodile. Seen a few snakes but they run away pretty quick when you get there. Often they just remain on the rock and carry on sunbathing. Just dont poke them or throw a rock at them to see if they are in a good mood.

Ever See Wolf Creek?

Just Kidding I would like to visit but with the gun right situation i couldnt see me moving there.

bad thats a under statement mate don't get me started :)

Wolf Creek was funny but very believable sooooooooooo many remote areas its not funny

That was supposed to be "based on actual Events" I am sure it was very sensationalized but was there a true story of kidnapings in that area?

This was the only movie I have been to where the audience Booed at the end

To answer these questions isn order, No, not applicable, and YES. A trip to Australia is extremely high on my list of trip plans, and I will make it happen. I just plan on waiting a few years until the kids get old enough to enjoy and remember it as well. I want to make it a bit of a mixed trip. Of course, we are going to have to see tourist-type stuff, but I want to spend a significant amount of time out in the bush.

Do you have ideas, plans, etc? Is that reason you are asking?

Brian

Yeah...I'm planning to go this July. Have business in Cairns then plan to tour Northern Queensland (Daintree/Cape Tribulation). Then onto Kakadu. Would also like to get to the Red Center.

Danno, any advice or 'don't miss' places in Queensland and the Northern Territory? I'm still in the planning phase and am looking for ideas.
