So about 3 weeks ago a member here on the forums bought my CRK Umnumzaan. I explained that I had never shipped anything but CONUS so I was a little nervous.

5/15/12 the Umnumzaan made it to customs and has still yet to leave. I did some reading online and it says in December of 2011 they changed their laws that knives that can be opened with one hand are illegal. Does this mean customs has seized the Umnumzaan? If so, how do I go about getting the knife back?

Has anyone else had any experience shipped Umnumzaan's to Australia?

I can't offer any advice on your specific predicament but I'm currently living in the Philippines and it can take anywhere from 1 week to 2 months for boxes to clear Customs. I've had some pretty lengthy delays shipping to other countries as well so depending on how Australia Customs runs things it may just be delayed. If seized it seems like they would contact either the shipper or receiver.

Good luck!

Customs would have contacted the buyer for sure! No idea if the ever contact seller.
Anyway, if you have received payment forget the knife, it's buyer's problem now and there is nothing you can do about it.
The customs here do not have a iron rule on letting folders through (well, all assisted, filippers, balisongs and double edged knives are a no-no), in some states they are more strict than in others, and it differs from person to person. A mate of mine recently got an Emerson from US without problems and I got Kershaw Skyline as well, so there is a hope for your buyer yet.
This demonstrates why most sellers put a disclaimer that once the package lives US they do not take any responsibility for it.

Yea that was something I said right off the bat was once it left my hands I don't take any responsibility. If it was a cheaper knife I wouldn't not be so worried but seeing how it was a Umnumzaan I just don't feel right leaving the guy out to hang. I have been talking with USPS and I will be filing the claim this week for it.

Hi...new to Blade forums but import a fair few folders into Australia. Avoid the USPS/Australia post arrangement customs seem to target this entry method. Pay the extra on high value knives and use Fed Ex/USP/DHL you stand a better chance . Tighten down blades on folders. The recent ruling on one handed opening makes it a minefield and open to Australian customs mood of the day. If you dispute item 16 section13 of the ruling to recover and lose (you will) you can be up for all legal costs . Big $.
