Australian Knife Laws

Back in the day of Crocodile Dundee (the 80's and early 90's) it used to be that there were no restrictions on carrying a knife in Australia, except for taking it out in public.

Now I think the rules are that you can't have any knife on you AT ALL, and cops have the right to search you based on suspicion alone. The only time you can have a knife is if your job demands it or you have a very good reason to have it (fishing) and you need to prove it.

If they catch you: you get an on-the spot fine, the knife is confescated, if you are unable to pay right there right then, you have to pay more and if you can't you face jail. On top of that you probably get a criminal record.

I hope I'm wrong about all this. This is what I remember from what I read.
I probably misunderstood, this is easy due to the form of language they use in laws here in Australia. On top of that, it is hard to find all of the laws, if you find any at all.

But there is good news for me, I look like an "Aussie" so they won't bother to search me and I'm starting work at the Army reserve, so I'll have good reason.

As long as I don't wear any wog clothes, then I'm fine. For example: A Polish military forest-ops jersey, the kind that is made from wool with synthetic patches on the elbows and shoulders, and a pocket for ammunition, a magazine and a pen.
