New Australian laws for the state of Victoria ban knives made completly of plastic/carbon fibre. Even knives like the Cat Tanto by Cold Steel are now prohibited. It's times like these that I wish all law makers would focus on those that break the laws rather than those who abide by them!!!!

Come on guys, name one practical use that any of you have for a crappy plastic POS like a CAT Tanto. Or any plastic knife for that matter. They are about as useless as teats on a bull, and I'd rather have the lawmakers attack them that say, one hand opening folders any day! If you really want/need a plastic knife, just get some G-10 or lexan and grind away...

Does that mean you're limited to 'sporks' in a pizza parlor or cafeteria ?

Hey PM, I think they're saying the govt in Victoria has gone all the way down the food chain until they got to placky knives. Not good. Naturally, 12" chef's knives are freely available

I have to ask myself why would anyone want to carry a plastic knife? I can see spreading butter or jam on bread, but, what could you possibly cut? Personally, I think carrying a Cold Steel CAT Tanto, or any other platic spike is useless unless you're an assasin.

el cid,
Shhhhh, don't ever use the word "assassin" at BFC. You wouldn't believe the nuts who come out of the wordwork around here when we start talking about spy stuff.

Perhaps that is the problem. That the only thing those plastic knives can be properly used for is to stick it deep in to someone's guts (or spread butter) might be a cause for concern. But I could use my drum sticks for that any day, and with much better effect. I just hope they don't outlaw my sticks though.

And that is really what, I think, most of us are worried about. Where does the line get drawn? Today it could be the plastic knives, tomorrow it would be your forks as well. (Wait till you see the wound that can be inflicted with a fork.

) When will politicians and the general populance realise that it is not the object that is evil, but the intentions of the user?

I just wonder how long it will be before politicians do their oddly convoluted sums and come to the conclusion that they must ban all types of kitchen knives since there are an inordinate number of stabbings using these particular types of blades. And also what will the general populance say at that time, when they realise that they can't prepare the family meal, or carve that Christmas roast, any more.

You won't even be able carve up your warm Christmas roast? Yet abortion (murder in some people's eyes) is perfectly 100% legal.

Wheeeeeeeeeew!

What sort of sick and twisted society are we turning in to?

I tell you something, I don't want to live in Australia any more. I am thinking of getting the hell out of here before they start banning computers!

****, they are gonna start banning everything. Ban TV, ban the Radio, ban free press and...they'll start banning fridges (because of a "risk") and then they will start banning walking...

****! You might as well become a quadriplegic!!!

Cheers,
Ben.

Some of you guys are missing the point. It doesn't matter what you think about plastic knives, it is the point that these worthless laws are being passed that effect the law abiding, and not the law breaker. Go out and ask alot of people on the street about your 3-4", tanto style blade, and the response you would most likely get is that there is no need for an assault weapon like that, it should be outlawed. After all, all you need for a knife is 1-2" folder and I can even show you that you can gut and skin a deer with it, no problem. Just think about how all these laws are creeping up on you, little buy little, until it is all gone, because of the indifference of attitude toward one minor aspect of your personal freedoms.

The only plastic knives I have ever used are the lexan stuff (knife, fork, spoons) I keep in the backpack for camping, and the cheap plastic stuff I use for backyard picnics. Does the law distinguish these or does the local fast food chain now have to go to metal tableware?
