G'day Blade Forums this is my first post and may I say you guys are doing a great job - theres a wealth of great info here for a bloke who's just getting into knives.

Anyway, my question, especially directed to the Aussies on this forum, is whether it is possible to buy overseas a good folder such as either the sog trident (probably) or ka-bar mule without having to get offical docos?

About a year ago I purchased a sog tech bowie off ebay for kayak/camping expeditions and it wnet through fine. Now I'm looking for another smaller knife to replace my little victorinox, however I am unsure whether these assisted openers (do you have to use two hands or one to open them... hell i don't even know how they work??) classify as as a prohibited/restricted knife.

This is what the Aus customs site says about prohibited/restricted import knives;

"Daggers or similar devices, being sharp-pointed stabbing
instruments ordinarily capable of concealment on the person"

"with a blade that opens automatically by either gravity or centrifugal force or by pressure applied to a button, spring or device in or attached to the handle of the device."

Have any Australians bought these overseas without problems? Any info would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance :)
