My wife is currently doing her medical residency training in Norristown, PA. So as a result, I will be relocating from Honolulu, HI to PA---I know, I know--but divorce is too expensive!! Anyways, I will be out there for at least 3 years and plan to start teaching publicly in Jefforsonville, PA come this October.

To get a preview of what we do, please check out YouTube.com and search for Malaya Martial Arts. One of my students posted a clip from a recent awards ceremony. Keep in mind that although in the vid we are playing knife, we train diligently with the stick.

BTW, I'm the guy in black/yellow.

Salamat.

Are you planning any weekend seminars? It's too far for me to train there weekly but I'd be interested in getting some training in with you if possible. It's always cool to train with someone new.

Honolulu to Philly...my condolences. :D

What song is in playing on your You Tube demonstration? I've heard it on a couple of clips, but I'm not hip enough to know.

What FMA are you teaching, specifically? FWIW in your demo, I see some Lacoste/Inasanto and some Mande Muda silat in there. Your wearing sarongs like Silat players, specifically like Mande Muda silat (with the center fold). Nice integration of the arts, but to call it "authentic FMA" may be somewhat of a misnomer, yes? Maybe authentic Southeast Asian Martial Arts?

Kalikulture,

I tried to email you, but that feature is disabled in your profile. Please post contact info when you get a chance, will you? I'm interested in learning more about what you are offering.

Thanks!

Hey guys, thanks for the inquiries. Sorry I haven't been on the forum for awhile--I have been sooo busy moving! Hawaii to Philly is a loooong way! To answer some questions from above:

1) Yes, we will be doing some occasional weekend seminars. Including one for the weekend after GT Gaje's sminar at Valley Forge. It will be on Sunday, October 21st. I'll post details soon--sorry for the late notice. Mostly Silat, and will conclude with Filipino blade. Guro Phil MAtedne will be presenting.

2) Yes, are group practices a blend of SouthEast Asian martial arts--good eyes. My Forte, however, is in the FMA. We wear sarongs because it is/was traditional garb for that part of the world and we wanted to maintain a more "traditional" and ethnic look to what we do (as opposed to the "modern" sport look).

The center fold of the sarong/mahlong is also done that way in the southern Philippines.

3) The song is "Bebot" by the Black Eyed Peas--we love it. In fact, they have two versions of the video posted on YouTube. The "contemporary" version as well as the "old school" version. The "old school" version was done with the Bahala Na Eskrima Guys in Stockton (although they weren't performing any martial arts). Great song!

4) Our contact info: malayamartialarts@gmail.com

I'll be at GT Tuhon's event at Valley Forge--I'd love to meet any of you guys there!

Mabuhay!
