I’m considering buying (NOT here on BF) this used Shirogorov R20 knife and I’m wondering whether it looks legit to yall? I’m not expert enough to tell with certainty from just the pictures. Waiting to see if he has the documentation but, in the mean time, I figured I’d ask the braintrust here what YOU think?CAAB86EA-E05F-4AAC-B903-F4C98CF4FDD8.png12142C88-521D-4473-AC19-30660C71F08C.png196AADA0-CCAB-401E-BD90-A37EB43BDF1E.png

So, a Neon R20, right? Looks legit to me. The card would help. Discontinued at the end of 2020 from what I gather.

It sure looks legit to me, comparing it to images I KNOW are authentic R20’s but I’m totally new to Shirogorov and that price range of knife. So, I wanted to ask some more knowledgeable people while I wait for a reply from the guy selling it. 🤞crossed it’s still available! It’s got some wear marks but the price reflects them and, most importantly, that’d make me more inclined to carry it more often. A pristine condition one would stress me out because I wouldn’t want to get that first scratch on it! Ya know?

Do you have higher rez pics?

Here’s a legit one

And here’s a fake

The most noticeable difference is the lack of toolmarks in the milled areas (and the scallops appear more rounded) followed by the finish - the fakes don’t appear very bronze/tumbled.

ETA: I’m doing this between errands so bear with me - there are of course more (not so) subtle giveaways (like the plunge line...) but those are the most glaring.

Alright, so I just got back to my place and am looking at the pics on an iPad vs phone and just have one more thing to add...

The knife is listed on USN.

The pictures I uploaded weren’t good enough quality - I couldn’t grab the actual pictures (on my phone) at the resolution they were shown at. The knife was listed on a couple of other sites AND here on BF - which I never saw until today. I gotta say, the images posted in the listing showed those tiny grooves in the milled areas. I believe it was legit but check out what happened… it’s a pretty cool story..

I started this thread to try and ascertain whether the knife appears legit because it was listed for a very good price by someone with a good rep on another forum. However, being new to this grade of knife and to this maker, I wanted to make sure it was legit before I committed. I did ask several questions over a day and a half period of time and I did get replies but it seemed like the seller only came online once a day to check mail. So, after starting this thread and then talking with Oklahoma Outlaw Oklahoma Outlaw by DM I decided to commit; by sending a “I’ll take it” message to the seller. Waited all night and all day today for a reply. Late in the afternoon I finally got a message from the seller that someone here on BladeForums beat me to it!!
Apparently someone here put the pictures together with one of those others listings or simply checked the obvious suspects until they found the listing and snagged it. I find that a little sneaky, personally, but maybe I’m just being paranoid. Lol. It’s just funny that this knife has been listed since August 24 on the site where I found it yet coincidentally someone from BF snagged it right before me! Helluva coincidence! BTW, the listing here on BF also hadn’t had any comments on it in several days.

My biggest interest, funny enough, was more in getting a slightly worn knife so that I’d feel better about scratching - I’d already been looking at and talking to JAB about his BNIB version. Sure, the money was also a concern but my biggest drawback was the idea of buying JAB’s knife and putting that first wear mark on it! So, I was pretty irked when I got the news. I rubbed a few pennies and decided to use a credit card (something I detest) to supplement what I had, to meet JAB’s asking price. Decision made. But, when I got home there was a envelope from my employer in the mail and, when I opened it up, there was a huge (but totally unexpected) bonus check!! ROFLMAO! It’s almost like God was watching and said, “here ya go! Go get that Shiro that you know is authentic from JAB and enjoy it!!” Divine intervention or pure luck - I don’t care. Personally, I think it was the former but either way is fine with me.

So guess who JAB is sending that 100% authentic, BNIB Shirogorov NeOn R20?? Yeah, THIS guy! Lol! Thanks for being do patient JAB!!

Kinda cool how things turn out! Hope the guy that had such miraculous timing enjoys that knife as much as I’m going to enjoy mine. 👊😁

Just to be clear, I wasn’t declaring that the knife in question was a fake but that I would have been extremely wary of purchasing it based solely on the provided pics. Glad to hear that the knife and seller are indeed legit.

ETA: I just searched for the listing here (I don’t have access to the bst area on the green site) based on the above post and it definitely looks good to go at full resolution:thumbsup::thumbsup:

I didn’t interpret your comments as declaring it one way or another. It’s all good! I’m confident that it WAS authentic and it just took me a little bit too long to get to that level of certainty. Your post helped immensely because it pointed out those little grooves down inside the milling which WERE present but not visible in the low-res screen shots I posted. I certainly learned some of the things to look for on that particular knife. Appreciate ya, JAB! 👊😁 Also, the other seller has a stellar reputation here on BF (as well as on another site) and had I been aware of that fact earlier, I would have purchased it as soon as I saw it listed. That’s entirely my fault. But I can’t be happier that I’ll have a showcase worthy knife from you in a few days! So it all worked out.

On another subject… did you get my last DM message about shipping? You can text me also - my number is in our DMs
