Hello, im from Argentina, (so please, excuse me for my bad english). I've recently purchased a buck folding knife, but I have some doubts about its authenticity

I've searched in the web for the specs by the model name and number, wich is:

BANTAM BLW,

0285CMS12-B

CAT 7404.

I'll attach some pictures to explain my worries,

but essentially I have two, first its the size, as you can see in the picture, closed knive reachs 9.5 cms (from 6.5 cms to 16 cms) and not 11.1 cms, like i've been reading on the specs. I dont know from where to where the blade must be meassured, but i think its a little bit short too.

and the second one, the blade has no number marks, it just says, BUCK USA, and unlike the stock photo in my attachment, wich have a 285 number in the blade, mines have nothing.

I also nottice that the box have an extra label, saying that its for sale outside US nd Canada. So maybe its another model version.

Can you tell me if this is a genuine buck knikfe, or its a counterfait??

at least the box contents seems right, and the blade look tough enaugh.. but i dont know. So ill apretiate an answer so i can get my money back and try to buy a real buck if this is a copy.

thanks a lot.

Reading a little bit more. i've found that the size can be matched with a buck model 0284CMS like this one http://www.bladeplay.com/item--Buck-Bantam-BBW-Mossy-Oak-Break-up--10235 maybe they give me the wrong box.

but i still have the missing number in the blade.

Welcome to the Buck forum nombresugerido (translation: my name come up with/proposed).

I have been wrestling with the identification of fake/counterfeit/ knock off Buck knives for years but I've not seen a fake Bantam. It is unusual, but not unheard of, for a Buck knife to have no model number blade marking. How did you purchase the knife? Perhaps you should take your concerns to the vendor. Is the vendor of good character? Is the vendor known to sell fakes? Has the vendor been in business a long time? Do others vouch for the vendor? Is the knife, besides lacking the model number, of good working quality, fit and finish?

You take a good photograph. Thank you for your post.

There is a sticky thread above showing known fake bucks, sold in USA, you might take a look at. http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...it-Fake-Bucks-amp-The-Americans-Who-Sell-Them

The sticker on the box has me interested. Does Buck package overseas sold only models differently and mark them differently? None of my Buck boxes has that. It looks rathr real to me, they are only $20 knives in the US. There is 4 different the sizes for the Bantam, the nano, B, L and H

Thanks a lot David and Oregon.

I've purchased the knife in a local store, the vendor, indeed, looks like a nice guy to me, he works with brands like victorinox, leatherman and opinel, so I dont think he sells fakes on proupose, if he do.

In fact, he ask me, for information about this brand, if i knew o used a buck knife before, so i give him a little info, (im an amateur colector, so i learn as much as i can) but i nottice the lack of tang stamp in home, when i take a closer look to the knife (i know my bad), beside that, the knife is great, perfect locking, no blade play, not so hard to open, no so soft neither, in short words, its feel legit.

i've sended these same pictures by customer contact in buck's official web page, and they answerme today, they say, they can tell the knife is in fact a genuine product, but they didn't give me an explanation for the missing model number, so i re aske them for thatn, and i'm still waiting.

I think i can add the answer to the thread of known fakes, because i've looked in there, and there's a lot of no tang stamps, catalogued as fakes, and maybe some are not.

and of corse ill post ir here too, so we can be more acurated in the future if another knife like this appears.

thanks and again, sry for my bad english!

Excellent work sugerido. Buck certifies it as authentic. Nothing like the source for answers. Most of us here, on the Buck forum, won't be familiar with export only Buck knives. You bring something interesting to the forum. I know that Buck ships all over the world but know very little about the labeling or features of offshore only knives.

The fakes shown in the sticky are shown because they have been offered for sale in the USA.

mars5l hi! i think i they give me the wrong box, 0285CSM model, and the 285 in the store must have my 0284 box, i'll wil go to chek it tomorrow to the store.

Anyway, i've reading some, and it seems that the knifes labeled like that are mostly made with some import parts from the china factory, but assembled in the USA, thats why the blade says USA, in the past, some model where full made in china, and their blades just said "buck", i think the brand trends to export the importeds, and keep the local mades, please someone correctme if im wrong in this.

We, USA residents, have available to us foreign and USA made Buck knives. If you buy a Buck 110 it will be made in the USA.

thanks a lot, now you mention, i want to have a 110 since a year ago, ill grab one asap, but here in argentina, now we are so much restricted in aduana matters, so we cant buy thinks outside easy.

Customs (aduana) hasn't bothered me here in the USA. I've imported things from other countries and never had a problem with customs (no delays, fees, tax, inspection or any other issues). You have mail.

We would translate that as: 'my name suggested'...
However, bien venidos, Senior! Mi, esposa vivia en Argentina, tambien... DM

'suggested name' yes it is!! and thanks, if you ever come to visit.. bring me a knife! haha.

and oregon, yes, yeas ago, customs was cool, but now the goberment want to keep dolars inside the country, so they complicate the things and overtax if you wanna spend green money outside. and now, they do all the things you mention (no delays, fees, tax, inspection etc etc), now no matter what you buy, one liitle knife, or a en entire box of jackets, you ar equaly considerated as an importer, so plus all of that you have to do a lot of paperwork... and thats really kind a bommer.
