I picked it up because I saw it on a promotional video that it would work with an AR-7 (I have the rifle and pistol) and I installed it according to the instrucitons, but I can't get the damn thing to work.

I also picked up one of those Hellstorm 2000 kits, but it doesn't work on what I have.

What should I do, and has anybody else had some experience with them?

ahhhhh they suck, they dont really work - only good to play with.no real tactical use imho - ya gotta hold the gun a certain way for them to work......

I am told you have to hold the gun Hollywood style -- shooting from the hip -- and push forward with your left hand on the forestock against recoil and hold your trigger finger steady and don't hold the gun with your trigger hand, or only loosely....

The way it works is the gun recoils from the first shot, then that forward pressure from your hand on the forestock takes effect and moves the gun forward enough for the trigger to contact your static trigger finger and fire again -- repeat until you've wasted all the ammo you can afford. Obviously you're not going to hit much that way ... it's just a way of making noise, basically.

correct coug, thats the way to do it - a bud years ago had a crank thing that attatched to his ruger 10/22 and ya turned the crank and got 4 rnds for every turn - worked okay for fun, but again not any good for tactical applications imho, but a good way to burn up 22 ammo fast, if ya had a drum mag for it lol - and is the only gizmo i have EVER seen that even comes close to working like a real auto - and i think ATF banned them years ago - oh well i crack up when i see the yokels buying 'hellfire' attatchments thinking they are gonna get a legal MG, aint no way, if it works BATF will ban it lol- not to mention how dumb you look trying to make the things work holding the gun "loose" is the best way i can think to describe it- again they suck, if i could get 1 for free( i did) i would take it but no way i would pay for the thing........

They really do work but you need something with more recoil than a .22RF. A MAK90, AKS, M11/9mm, MAC10, etc.... works well but be ready to explain to the man what in the hell you're shooting and that he might just have to take you and your firearm with him until 'the smoke clears', i.e., you PROVE to him that it's legal...... The looser you hold it, the better it works. If you want to be able to hit something and burn up a bunch of .22rf ammo, get the twin 10/22 set-up........ <IMG SRC="http://www.watsonsweapons.com/images/gat3.jpg"> from: http://www.watsonsweapons.com/products/22gattling.htm

Timmy, as a lifelong gunner and a 27 year LEO, I discovered long ago that with any decent semi auto rifle, I can shoot faster than I can load magazines. I have owned (legally) full auto weapons, and find them to be so specialized as far as tactical usage, that they are almost useless to someone oriented toward self defense. Now, I love gadgets, and can see how some of these "shoot-fast" devices could get me to part with a few bucks just to play with them, but for any real defensive usage, most guns are best just the way they came from the factory. This is just one man's opinion, but one shared by most "old timers" in the gunning game.Regards, James

Thanks for the words AlaChoctaw, but I guess that I'm still a little dissapointed that I have one and it didn't work.

I guess I will have to toss it into the closet with my Pocket Fisherman, and gimmic fishing stuff too. :(

the crank sifu is referring to is called a "batf activator" and they are still legal as i have seen them at numerous gun shows....they may not be made anymore but they are legal...i checked...the one i have is an earlier model that hits the trigger 10 times with each revolution of the crank....i had it on my 10/22 when i was in medical school and also had a bipod on the rifle.....properly supported i could empty a 50 round magazine in about 2 to 3 seconds.....talk about a 10/22 barrel getting hot!!!!!......as others have said it was fun to play with but had no real tactical/self defense applications and you will do better with a semi auto with aimed fire than the spray and pray method of using one of these devices....i have also played with just about every rapid fire device on the market past and present and they all work to some degree but nothing like a real selective fire weapon....i have had the good fortune to fire many legally owned selective/full auto weapons that my friends own and they are fun but very expensive to feed.....my favorites include an MG-42 that is belt fed and on an antiaircraft mount with a cyclic rate about 1000 rounds per minute....talk about rock and roll!...i have also been able to get down on a 50BMG browning and the .30 cal equivalent model 1919 and they too were belt fed and a blast to unleash.....the worst thing that happens is you trade off these gadgets you have towards a good blade....feverdoc

The only exception I would make to this is, an MP5, possibly the Integrally Suppressed Model.

If there was no "stigma" attached to defending yourself with a Fully-Automatic, Suppressed Weapon, this would be the ultimate for a house gun.

I'm serious. I don't own one, could never hope to afford to own one, let alone feed it. But I have shot them, and I love them.

Having the ability to put three rounds in an attacker, with no flash and very little noise preserves the night vision and the all-important hearing. You don't hear people write about hearing much when it comes to using firearms for Self-defense, because no one jacks plugs in their ears when TSHTF.

The 9mm becomes more lethal due to increased velocity, therefore, all of the comparisons become moot to other calibers.

Hit probability under stress is greater due to increased accuracy, longer sighting plane.

These SMGs are incredibly easy to control, even for someone who is very small in size with even a little more training.

There is a very good reason this weapon is chosen by so many Law Enforcement Units and Counterterrorist Units, it's because it is that excellent in that role. The tables are just reversed from entry to repelling boarders, so to speak.

If I could afford it, and lived in a State that was sane and had no real prejudice against using one lawfully, I would damn sure own one, in a heart beat.

Clamped magazines together, fire discipline...you better believe it.

Maybe one day, The Emerson Case will make it to the SCOTUS and some of these issues might be resolved in a sane manner.

For wasting a little ammo on hip-level rapid fire, a friend of mine used to hook his right thumb into his right pants pocket, place his right index finger on the trigger, then use his left hand on the forearm of the rifle to push it forward. The rifle would fire and the recoil would kick it back far enough to allow the trigger to reset and continue to fire. It is obviously a pretty useless technique, but it works about as well as most trigger activators and you save the cost of the activator!

Hi!

Just a note on the integral suppressed '5, as the barrell is shortened and ported you will lose muzzle velocity, thus maybe NOT gaining the higher speed that you want with the nine.
The MP5SD was designed to lower the muzzle velocity to avoid getting the sonic crack for a totally silenced package.

I've fired'em and i could hear the bullets hit the backstop
It's a very cool gun but i've read instances where the bullets has failed to incapacitate.

(of course it could have happend with any gun, but the lower muzzle velocity is a fact)

Bwahhahahaha! I never even thought of the velocity issue when I wrote that. See, Don has to eat his own words sometimes as well. The round would be subsonic because of the integral suppressor.

Everything else I still agree with. great benefit in every other aspect.

Too bad the laws and lawyers suck.
