I have a GM auto and my CD player is skipping. I tried cleaning it by blowing in compressed air and also tried a CD cleaner with a small brush on it. Both of these methods were fruitless. I really hate to purchase a new CD player.I'm curious if anyone had this problem and how did they fix it. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like the head alignment is off. You could take it to get repaired, but it'd probably be better to get it replaced.

I had a CD player in my car that I thought was skipping.

Turns out that the board on the factory amplifier had become unsoldered. The thing would cut out and sound just like skipping if I went over anything bumpy.

Does yours skip only when driving, or does it happen all the time?

If its not under warranty it'll be cheaper to replace it. I had a Blaupunkt that was skipping a lot in a Jeep Wrangler. I thought it was due to the suspnsion of the truck until I went off roading along with my buddy with his truck hardly a skip.

If you end up replacing it I would suggest going with a Pioneer unit. They are very tough and absolutely reliable.

Get an Eclipse. The one I bought for my girlfriend has not skipped once and it plays her most scratched cd's. Eclipse only uses high quality lasers and components in there units.

Eclipse. They are one of the best around. Also their priced really good. About $350.oo should get you their top model. Their speakers are unbelievable, only $100.oo. They sound almost as good as MB Quartz which can cost 3x. Check it out side by side to any other unit.

for my VW. I was worried I might have to forget about them because it's a Baja (it's pretty stiff). Maybe come tax time I'll have to check out Eclipse or Pioneer.
