Auto laws vary from state to state. I think you could get some useful feedback to your questions over in the Auto Forum. There are a bunch of knowledgable folks over there.

King, I was wondering the same things a few years ago so I went to the nearest court house and dug through my state's law books. As far as Florida goes, there is not one single law on the books pertaining to switchblades or automatic opening knives. I then asked the asistant Attourney General if that meant they're leagal. Seems to me that if theres no law saying something is illegal, then it just makes sense that it is legal. Not so, according to the gentleman I spoke with. He said just because there were no laws covering that item, that didn't necessarily mean they weren't illegal. I've asked dozens of LEOs and they all say as long as you're not doing something bad with it, they don't mind you carrying a switchblade or balisong, as long as it meets the standard knife requirements on the books. Whew!!! Anyway, it would be worth the effort to go read your state's laws. They probably won't tell you much, but atleast you'll know what the real law is, and that might come in handy some day when you're trying to explain why the one you're carrying isn't illegal. Take care! Michael

Always think of your fellow knife makers as partners in the search for the perfect blade, not as people trying to compete with you and your work!
