Question about auto knives in Illinois. For the past few years they have been legal if you have a FOID card. What if you are an out of state resident? Is it like firearms where if you have an out of state weapons permit that works in place of the FOID card?

No doing since Illinois has NO reciprocity with other states. If you have a CCW you can carry an automatic knife (as an Illinois resident). If you are from out of state, don't do it.

So as the law reads, one must have (and present) a FOID card to purchase ammunition at a store. The courts rules that a weapons permit from another state would work instead of a FOID card for the purpose of an out of state resident purchasing ammunition in the state of Illinois. (This was a decade ago, if I remember correctly.) Since then, they made auto knives legal for people that have a FOID card, so my question is whether a weapons permit from a different state will function in the same manner that it does in regards to purchasing (or possessing) ammunition.

Out of state residents are not required to present a FOID to buy ammo, they can buy ammo without a FOID.

Now there may be corporate restrictions, eg try telling the fellow at the ammo counter at Walmart that you don't need a FOID if you live outside if Illinois.

I would presume the same is true for non-residents on the knife question, but the real question is how did you become involved in the discussion with a LEO regarding your possession of a knife in the first place?
