Auto Knives

In states where auto knives are illegal, can they still be owned as part of a collection and not carried outside the home?
 
Depends on the state. In CA you can own one but can't carry one. When I transport mine I do it in a locked gun case in the trunk.

I went to the trouble of cataloging the auto laws in all 50 states. The results can be seen here:

In short, there are 15 states where autos are illegal, period, end of sentence. Even in the privacy of the home or as part of a collection. Only two, Montana and Pennsylvania have collector exceptions to the law. The rest allow legal ownership, but vary in restrictions on carry.
