I have a Microtech OTF UTX which is under 3" which is legal in RI but keep hearing different things on being legal/not legal to carry a Auto. Does anyone know the Truth if it is legal to carry a Auto under 3". I have read the laws on Packing.org but does not really say anything about Auto's?? I even called the State Police and at first he did not know what a Auto was.. But when I explained he said oh its legal as long as its under 3" I know the RI laws mention nothing about auto's?

A few years ago I was talking with Jason Williams who, along with his step-father Bill McHenry, live in RI. (They of Axis lock fame) At the time Jason was making custom automatics. He told me that he and his step-father had hired an attorney to research RI knife laws. They had determined that it was legal for "knife collectors" in RI to carry switch blades. According to Jason, all a person had to do was join an actual knife club to be considered a "knife collector". Whether or not this is still the case today, I cannot say.

You might ask the owner of Cove Cutlery on Rt. 1 in Charleston, RI. He knows Jason and Bill, and he seemed pretty knowledgeable the one time I spoke with him. Cove Cutlery

Chris thanks for the info

I did speak with the man from Cove and he said as long as your not commiting a crime you are O.K. and basically thats what the law seems to say.
