Auto or assisted open Cuda Maxx?

I've heard this rumor as well. You never can tell with these guys! This would be cool, if true!

I hate to be the ghost at the wedding, but it seems to me that "assisted opening" knives are walking on some very thin ice. Understand first that I disagree with the laws on switchblades, automatics, and any other such knives. That said, there does not seem to me to be any chance of these laws being repealed or even lessened in their reach or severity. I suspect that the next step, indeed, is the outlawing of "assisted opening" knives. When you look at it from the point of view of a prosecutor or law enforcement officer, such as in the case of an unfortunate BFC member who had a CRKT Ken Onion knife siezed at the Gateway Arch in St. Louis, MO, these knives already look to be automatic opening with the movement of a lever, the blade, only a slight degree. It is a very fine point of law, and I know that the companies making them have received opinions and rulings ad nauseum that they are not in violation, but if it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, then....... :(

This question would be even more of an issue, it would seem to me, with a knife such as a CUDA MAXX of either size. I hope that I am wrong, but I should very much hate to be the test case trying to convince a judge and jury that a 5.5" or a 7" knife with an assisted opening is not a violation of the switchblade bans. I should hate it even more if I were arrested in one of the more urban areas. :(

You bring up a very valid point. The other side to look at on this is how many of us carry a folder that can be opened via some form of inertia opening technique? US Customs and other countries already consider them to be gravity knives. I have heard from a couple of young inexperienced LEOs that also consider them to be gravity knives. At this point, with these attitudes, darn near anything you put in your pocket is going to seem to fit one of the definitions. The plus side, one of the most overlooked weapons laws is the switchblade/gravity knife laws. Some of the LEOs in my area have told me they rarely charge anyone with that as it usually gets tossed out right away. When they do charge someone, it is usually because they want to get that person off the street for the night or that person really ticked them off.

While I am not a huge fan of autos or assisted openers, I say, enjoy them while we can!:D
