Auto Ordnance 1911?

I currently own a Stainless SW1911 which has been utterly reliable. I am considering another 1911, but cannot afford the stiff price tag of the newer SW1911's, or the Para-Ordnance or SIG offering that I can get in my state. Auto Ordnance is my only other option, so I am wondering how people who have them feel about their reliability?

I owned one about 20 years ago, it was a basic as issued government 1911A1. Would only feed ball ammo reliably out of the box, got it to feed the flattened Hornady reliably as well, had issues with most hollow-point designs. If what you want is a basic .45 auto to keep for defensive usage or occasional target shooting it would work well. It would also be a good place to start if you would want to build your own custom job as well.
Just don't expect it to be a Kimber out of the box.

Actually, I think I will shell out for an M&P 45 and do a sear change in the future. As much as I want another 1911.

I bought one as my first 1911, it was used and didn't like any type of ammo that I fed it.....I liked the way it felt, but it wasn't reliable so I traded it off, it would be wise to see if you can shoot it first, or like others have said use the frame to build you a custom.....
