Hi.
I have a couple very tiny chips in my paint - probably just over an 1/8" maybe one is 3/16". There is a little rust here.
I've researched this on the web and the correct repair is more than I want to get into. These chips are really small and I just want to dab something on them to neutralize the rust and then dab a little touch up paint to the area.
My question is; what product do I need (if there is such a thing) to apply to the rust before I paint over it?

You need to sand out the rust and apply a primer before you paint.

My dad used to use some stuff that carbonized (?) the rust, turned it black. Was it Naval Jelly? Then sand lightly and touch-up with paint.

Sorry I don't recall more...

You know about Dupli-Color, right? Your only question is preparing the surface to paint. You only have a couple of tiny spots to paint so don't mess around with that rust converter stuff; do it right. Sand it down to the bare metal, that'll only take a minute, then prime it and wait for the primer to dry before you apply the touch-up paint.

You're going to do a terrible job, unless you have painting experience. Look around, get some estimates from the different paint shops/body shops in your area. If you look hard enough, and if you ask around, you might be able to get a painter to do the job on the side for a cheaper price.

If you want an aerosol touch up paint, go to http://www.paintscratch.com
They have incredible service. Just give them your VIN, paint code, and some cash and you'll get a perfectly blended spray paint and they shipped mine in two days.

I went with paintscratch and was happy overall. It is a more exact match than the typical auto store stuff. I opted for the small brush application system, and just dabbed some into the small chips on my car. I got to it before there was any rust though. It matches well, and you only really notice if you are looking very closely.

There are also products you can use to smooth out any blobs left after touchup- on my car, you can't tell any of the chips were even there. :D
