Auto presidio question.

I’m sure I remember reading that you can’t turn an axis auto into manual the same way a assist can be. However how would auto presidio 2 act without the coil spring? Thanks
 
Would probably generate a lot of blade play if you just removed the spring as it takes up space and supports the tang on that side… unless you put a spacer or washer in it’s place.

ETA. Maybe. There is a collar in my older Presidio which might mitigate that, but I know I can tighten the pivot to the point the spring will bind, which leads me to believe it does provide some support.

On a manual AXIS the way the base of the blade rubs against the AXIS bar acts as a bias/detent to keep the blade closed inside the handle. I don't know if the blade on the auto version has the same curve on the base of the blade to do the same. Of course, it'll still lock closed, but I don't know if it'll "snap" closed. If it doesn't, then if you plan on flicking it open and closed like the manual versions can, the blade might bounce. You can probably tell if when closing the auto the AXIS bar moves back until snapping forward to lock rather than staying in one position until snapping locked.
 
Well thanks for opinions, out of curiosity I answered my own question. It actually works great without em. If any body is ever curious the action is way better and as a bonus it’s a manual with the extra lock on back keeping axis from siding off tang.

Huh, neat. The curiosity was going to make me tear mine down again and try it out just to find out if I my suppositions were correct or not, but I hadn’t had the time yet. Thanks for letting us know!
 
Well basically,hopefully is to out back my 5790 auto back together,any pictures or videos u have will be great.tried finding videos online but they don't have my model.
