Hello, I made a semi auto liner lock and I made the spring out of titanium but it doesnt have the power to open the blade all the way. The blade opens easy by hand so that is not the problem. Could it be that the position of the end of the spring where it pushes the blade is too close or far from the pivot? Also I heard that a deeper seated detente ball will give it an extra kick by holding it back that fraction longer. If this is not the case then what would be a stronger spring? Thanks.

Springs should be made from carbon steel like O-1 or 1095.

I've got some extremely high end autos with titanium springs....exceptional action and perfect operation....do not set.

Most liner and frame lock folders use titanium these days and those items are springs, just shorter throw.

Not that carbon-steel doesn't make a fine spring, just saying springs do not really need to be made from carbon bearing material.

now does the distance from the tip of the spring to the pivot make a difference?

You're asking the wrong guy because the only folders I ever made were balisong's.... ;)

I would certainly imagine, very slight changes in placement and geometry make a World of difference.

I would recommend contacting someone that has experience making such knives and get with them....in person if possible. There's also a Sub-Forum here on BF that you would get a much better response from, There are folder makers here and I'm surre they'd be able to assist: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/forumdisplay.php/741-Shop-Talk-BladeSmith-Questions-and-Answers
