Automatic Sebenza, do they exist?

I think these would be awesome, but never heard of one before. anyone ever heard/seen of these. I would think SOMEONE would have modified one by now... surely!

maybe I have big dreams...
 
I haven't heard of such an animal. To me, an auto Sebbie, wouldn't be a Sebbie.
 
Chris has expressed numerous times that he will never, ever make an automatic knife. It will never happen.
 
why? why will Chris not make an auto sebenza, and why is he so heavily against autos? anyone know?

Becuase the Sebbie is perfect just as it is. The Sebenza IS the best production knife out, just as it is. An auto Sebbie would the perfection that IS the Sebenza. I feel it would be sacriligious to do THAT to a Sebenza. And if Mr. Reeve wanted to make the Sebenza auto, HE would have done it by now.

He doesn't like them and sees no need for them. Your beating a dead horse here. He will not make one. End of story. If your interested in knowing more give him a call and ask him. Use the search function using automatic as your keyword and search the CRK forum. There will be enough threads on this topic.
 
I don't know if it is possible with a seb, but there have been many example of makers putting a spring mechanism on an manual knife.
 
Several knifemakers have converted sebenzas to automatic. Personally, I really like the idea. But I would never ask CRK to make one. A horse beat dead, indeed...

So, yes, they exist...but they are a reflection of that maker's work...and not of CRK.

Don't feel bad for wanting one...:(

I don't think he is "against" autos. He has made stuff for Microtech in the past (take a look at some of their early OTF pocket clips), and IIRC he and Tony Marfione know each other.

As I remember, he has said that he doesn't see the point in making one. The Sebenza is a case study in sophisticated simplicity, and autos are not simple.

If you search this forum, or the CRK forum archives at Knifeforums you should be able to find some prior posting.
 
cool guys. just so we are clear, I don't want CRK to make one, so there is no dead horse to beat. I was simply wondering if ANYONE does, or has ever mod'ed a sebbie. I know that buck does not make the 110 autos, but I also know they are mod'ed by many others. I just was not sure about the sebenza. thanks for the clarity. also, i wanted some back ground as to why Chris was not big on autos (once Ken brought it up), but now i'm clear on that as well.

sorry, i didn't know it was such a "sore" subject here on the CRK threads. i'll do a search later, and not bother anyone with this again. later all

Why so sensitive? I don't think any of the posts in this thread imply that it was a "sore" subject, or a bother, just several people trying to answer your question. If my post came across in a way to give you that impression it was not my intention.
