One of the nice things about getting old is being able to make new toys. I've never built an automatic but decided I just had to make just one..:D

I think I can make one that works like a Gerber bolt action with a second recess cut to hold the blade closed as well as open. Any ideas on this design?

Go for it, Pete! About the MW, well, he did manage to beat you on the ugly knife contest...... . I did see an uglier knife a few weeks ago, made by a nut case in Illinois. He was on his roof by their chimney, dressed in a Ninji outfit and mask, posing for his wife and her camera. Your ugly knives can't compare with his. Sad thing is, he was proud of his work that his wife had shown me, and would rather pose on the roof than listen to any gentle suggestions. She showed me some pics of her husband posing in trees, too. Fortunately, he kept his balance on the peak of the roof, and my wife and I used that for a good time to truck outta there! We had stopped there to get a hound pup that was offered by the humane society. Got the pup and hauled a$$ out of there before the pup thought the guy's behavior was normal for humans. Sorry, didn't mean to hihack your thread.

John, so what is the point?? What does this have to do with Peter's question???
Peter, I think John is getting old, if you know what I mean.   :p

To really answer I would say , how about designing it to look primative."Mountain man auto" Like a stag handle and such.

Mark

p.s I saw a mountain man stag handled folder at the SGKS show with a $1500:eek: price tag on it.I didn't even bother to ask if I could see it.

That's a thought Mark. I could make a Possum Oosic handle and make damascus from recycled #2 steel traps.......Hmmmm:eek:

I dont mean to hyjack yout thread my friend.. but if you run across a good deal on a double barrel shotgun with external hammers let me know. I'm sure stuff of that nature is a bit more common in your neck'o'de woods. Ive got an older AR-7 .22 for partial trade or just buy outright. I was going to pick one up at the gun show in Richmond this coming w/e but I have to work:mad:

Peter, possum oosic? Ummmmmmmmm, is it like, big enough? It would be pretty neat if it will work. IG, Yep, WE are getting old!

How you gonna get that oppossum to stand still long enough for you get his oosic away from in the first place?? Them little buggers got nasty sharp little pointy teeth and don't mind usin em on ya.

Peter, I think John is getting old, if you know what I mean

The sad thing is George.....while I was reading his post my mind was wandering off to the fellow I met making ninja swords from 1"X1/4 stock, ground on a coarse bench grinder, handles made from wrapped electrical tape covered with tool dip, sale price of $550.00 and darn proud of them.

I am getting old!:(

is it like, big enough
Darned if I know John....Might have to glue two or three together for a large auto...You just never know until you measure one...Peter Hathaway Capstick talks about Sjambok's (whips) being made from Rhino #$%^@
It's time for Laurence to comment I guess.:o
