If its illegal to carry a auto and a bali then why isnt it illegal to carry everything thats inside of a toolbox?
This is just something iv been itching to start a conversation about because me personally id rather get stabbed by a switch blade and have a smooth even stab wound and hopefully get it sewn up rather then a dirty Phillips heads screw driver that is going to make a jagged puncture hole.
Or id rather get stabbed with a butterfly/balisong over getting hit in the face with a hammer. Id rather get stabbed with a knife then a pen or pencil.
These daily items are just as hazardous and dangerous as a illegal balisong and auto.
When i was a junior in high school some kid stabbed someone with a number 2 Dixon Ticonderoga pencile that he sharpened and put him in the er.

Yes but i want to see the studies showing how they are so much more dangerous. Real studies not 80's gang movies witch is where i think 90% of the laws were made from.

if there are no studies then there is no reason for them to be illegal, and if they did studies it would show they are no more of a threat then anything else.
 
I don't see your point, rather I see your point.. do you support AKTI or kniferights?

Arguing with other knife nuts that knives should be legal is preaching to the choir.

im not arguing with anyone it was supposed to be a conversation and im not a knife nut

You are posting on a knife based forum... FOR the legality of switchblades and butterfly knives... you are by definition a knife nut! :D

What sort of conversation do you think you will find on a knife site?

i finished school, and i know how the government works, they dont have to have a real reason they dont have to have evidence or proof and if they decide to say something everyone has to listen. i think everyone missed the point of this, it isnt about what can or cant be changed its about what we think should be changed.

by definition i am i guess then, but i would never justify buying stuff like striders and sebenzas, i cant see any reason why theey are worth 300+$ when i can get a master piece of a knife for around 100 and it will do all the same stuff.

I have yet to own any real expensive knives because im on a tight budget but even if i wasnt i dont think id ever spend that much, maybe in the like 150 for zero tolerance and some spydercos.

You think that now, but so did I :D. Now I am on the list for a Alan Folts custom.

Id like to be able to just go buy some 350$ stuff but id be too scared to use it, and im not really a collector i like usability and those things are like art to me not really users.
I dont think ill have that spare cash anytime soon anyway

They were made illegal in the 50's ( Switchblades ). The reason as already stated was a knee jerk move due to hysteria from movies in that era. There have been some good movements though.

sorry got a little bit off track. Back on topic.
So the law seems like its based off of 1950's gangster movies and it hasnt been updated at all. Gangsters dont use switch blades no more, they use "Dey GAT". The crimes are mostly committed with guns, i havent even heard of anyone using a switchblade for illegal purposes, the only person i even knew of who has a switch blade is a kid i work with who uses it in the back room.

In the end the people who are going to do bad things with it have it weather or not its legal or illegal because they are going to do something illegal anyway.
 
Once laws are passed, it's often very hard to get them repealed. However, there has been significant progress in the past 5 years that gives me that tiny glimmer of hope:
1. The federal law (that only controls sale) was clarified to exclude assisted opening knives and all other knives that are not true automatics. Several states like Texas followed suit.
2. Arizona legalized all knife carry (and gun carry) for everyone over 21, and passed a law that nullified all local county and city weapon laws (preemption)
3. South Carolina fixed it's law that was very confusing (making it sound like you could not carry a knife over 2 inches long...IIRC) and now allows all knife carry, even switchblades and balisongs.
4. I think another New England state passed similar laws in that time, but I forgot which. Might have been New Hampshire.

Plus there are a few states that already had legalized carry of balisongs (Maryland) and automatics (Vermont, Utah) for years, and as we speak there are more bills on legislative dockets that look hopeful. Nearly all these laws had some kind of connection or help from AKTI and/or KnifeRights.org. At this rate, I may live to see the federal law and my own state's automatic laws repealed.

I hear yah. But I will be using this one alot. I use/collect if that makes sense. No safe queens.
