i’ve had good experience with automotive self applied ceramic coatings on my vehicles. Do you think the coatings could help protect the finish of the blade or scales?

I don't believe this is really what is happening with auto ceramic coatings...

in any case, TiN or TiCN produces a better result I would expect, it bonds directly to the steel and has a very high hardness, while automotive ceramics are designed to be applied to paint/clearcoat surfaces

I'd like @knarfeng or other chemists weigh in on this one ; )

There is DLC already, at least for the blade.
This is an automotive coating but is used on the engine parts

my understanding is that 'ceramic' auto coatings are just a polymer and provides an extra layer of protection which is hydrophobic (repels water)

I'm fairly certain that it is not anything like what was used on engine parts
