Whats the thoughts on the Autonomy. I got on on the way. I guess I should have ask ahead of time but I pulled the trigger.

Hi Hollar,

I'm guessing you'll like it. I really like mine. Let us know what you think. Make sure to cut with it.

I just landed my dream diving job. After my first few checks when I can afford it. I'm going to reward myself with an autonomy. I want it so badly.

I've been carrying one for a few months now and really like it. The H1 isn't the best for cutting, but works well enough with the serrated edge. A buddy was using it to cut through a dryer exhaust hose and didn't realize there was a wire in there. Folded some of the serrations a bit but I got it all worked out with a Lansky. I haven't had it in water yet, but it's just about to start getting time for lots of river duty, so it will. I have been using an Atlantic Salt for a long time and really like it as well. I now have both the black and orange Autonomy and there are slight difference but they are both awesome tools.

As with most autos, the Autonomy is a fun toy. However, from a purely practical standpoint, I think most people would be better off with an Atlantic Salt or Assist Salt. IMHO, the Autonomy's huge, and very exposed, firing button make it dangerous to carry with the safety off and slower than models with a conventional Spyderhole opener when carried with the safety on. Carrying with the safety on also removes any advantage over the Spyderhole in terms of opening with gloves on, at least for me. Assist and Atlantic are lighter, have H-1 blades of approximately the same length, and cost considerably less.

I currently have an Atlantic Salt knives and it was previously my go-to water/camping/fishing knife. I lost one overboard and immediately replaced it as it's awesome for its intended use. The button on the Autonomy takes a good bit of pressure to deploy the blade and I have not had a single accidental opening in a few months of carrying one every day. I've never used the safety on my black one, and my orange one does not have a safety. I can see from a liability aspect why it's there, but from a practical standpoint, I am not the slightest bit worried about accidental deployment. The Atlantic Salt is definitely thinner, lighter and easier to carry, though. They're both awesome water knives.

I just ordered an Autonomy from BHQ. Autos were just recently made legal in my state and I have been wanting one but couldn't find anything I really liked. I finally found the Autonomy and I was thrilled to see it with H1. I have been carrying a serrated Pacific Salt for work for a couple years since in my work outside my gear is constantly getting wet and also sweaty and stays like that all day. Other knives quickly start to develop rust and I don't want to have to clean and oil a work knife all the time. The Pacific has been AMAZING in this regard. No rust anywhere, ever. I am very eager to see how this new knife does in my environment. If I can toss it in my gear catch at the end of the day with sweat and condensation all over the blade without cleaning it and it keeps from rusting, I will be super happy. It would be an auto I can actually justify having and using!!
