Does anyone EDC auto? It is probably illegal where I live, but I sure like how my Protechs carried and opens.

I am seriously toying with the idea. It might be less than law abiding of me, but if i were to cave and EDC an auto, it would be a Benchmade mini-reflex. I just love that blade shape, and the length is dead on in my preferred length.

I edc'ed a MicroTech L-UDT and SOCOM Elite Auto for a few years, switching between them every few days.

No different than EDC'ing any other knife, although if you are the "carry for self defense" type then you might want to consider the legal ramifications, especially how a jury would look at the intent behind carying an auto.

I have a friend who used to carry a cheap Boker 1/2 serrated tanto auto at work but that is because it was at work he would put it in his locker so as not to bring it out of thr building, but that was at work. And the Benchmade autos are some of the finest production autos that I have handled but I had held few autos I have to admit. Autos are fun and such but I can't carry them thus I don't own them.

Yeah Biginboca is right the auto knife has a bad stigma for doing more harm than an atom bomb in the public mind as we here on the forum know that is not true but the general sheeple population don't know as well as us.

The fact that AOs are illegal in most places speaks volumes of how ignorant lawmakers are of the real world and how political weapons laws are. They're written up by people with no street smarts or common sense.

A knife that opens at the push of a button is less dangerous than a baseball bat or even a two foot piece of pipe you can get at a hardware store. If I wanted to take someone out, it would be easier to do with either one of these implements.

But some idiot congressman dreamed these knife laws up because they thought it would make them appear to be "tough on crime", and get a few more votes.

It's the same thing with weapons laws. Criminals will always be able to get their guns through the black market, but it's becoming harder and harder for law-abiding citizens to obtain them through legitimate means.

As for AOs, I consider the prices to be too high to justify buying them. For the price of a Microtech, you can get a nice little revolver, even some semi autos, or several manual or assisted opening knives. I'm not going to drop $400-$500 bucks on a knife!

I would strongly suggest you do not carry an auto if in fact is illegal in your state. If you are caught with one, you could be restricted from carrying anything. It would not be worth it. I agree that the laws should be changed, but I do not want my right to carry infringed because of carrying a restricted knife in my state. I felt like you a bit til I spoke with a vendor who set me straight. I have assisted opener Kershaw Cyclone. It opens as fast as an auto. In the slim chance I would ever need it for self defense, it would open fast enough. Stay within the law, it is just my advice.

i carried a cheap boker magnum auto at work for a while. if you do construction and don't clean the knife like i mistakenly did. then you'll end up with a pain in the butt clogged with dirt and grime.

Ive carried a Spyderco Embassy for a little bit, and a Benchmade Auto Stryker a bit also. My Dad has been carrying a BM Auto Spike every day for something like 12 or 13 years.
I wouldnt recommend carrying an auto if its illegal in your area though.

If you want a fast opening knife, get an Emerson. Opens faster than an auto but still legal. If you have a favorite tip up carry folder, send me a message and we can talk about waving it.

What Charlie Mike said about waves being faster. Plus the legal issues, plus that budget autos come with a blade play problem. I'll carry a cheap knife, a worn knife, a damaged knife, but NOT a knife with blade play.

If I could afford a quality OTF I would carry it nevertheless ;)

I used to EDC autos but that means I'm going to use them for various chores. This means a lot of wiping them down which intern means water coming in contact with the springs and then they break. It happened to me so much this summer that I just shelved my TR3's and Benchmades. Too bad, I think the TR3 is the most handsome knife ever made.:(

I cant because it is illegal but I wouldnt want to anyways. Very bad stigma with them and I like to be proactive in making knives seem friendly and useful...not weapons. I would have a very hard time justifying a auto knife to many many people considering the bad name they are given

Here in CA autos have to be under 2". Although you can find them they are not very useful IMHO. I would carry one otherwise. It's not my problem if sheeple find them scary.

If it's legal where you are, get and EDC a BM 5000. Hell of a knife. Wish I could carry mine legally. As it stands, it has to stay home. :(

Well, since they can consider virtually anything but a slip joint a "switchblade" here in WI, the legality of it doesn't play all that much into my thinking. I carry one once in a while, not all that much though. Axis locks are more fun to play with anyway.
