I like to carry my Protech TR3. I was kinda wondering how long this knife will last? I have been carrying it for EDC for about a month now, and really like the knife. Should I carry something else, so I won't wear this knife out?

If you mean wear out in the sense that the spring will break on you, then trust me you're okay. Your spring isn't going to wear out unless the heat treat wad bad. I'm sure you'll be fine. If you like it as your EDC and you want to try something different, I would suggest an L-UDT from Microtech. They're very similar, but different enough that you know they are different knives. MT isn't producing them right now, but you can find them in the Autos for sale section sometimes at a pretty decent price.

I would think the TR-3, as well as any well-made auto, will last a proverbial lifetime with regular maintainance - cleaning and lubing - assuming one didn't sharpen it to death, anyway.

LUDT 4 the win! Or try a full size Socom.

I have a Protech TR 3. Very nice. I had a LUDT but unfortunately the latest model made came mostly with 420hc steel:(. I sold it. Recently I had a spring break in my Benchmade 2550. I pampered that knife so I couldn't understand how the spring broke. According to the experts over in the automatic forum, I needed to use WD40 after getting it wet. Something I didn't do. I just let it air dry. After I sent the 2550 back to BM to get it fixed, I traded it for another TR3.:)

You'll go a long way before you find a knife as reliable and backed up by as good a company as ProTech. Great knives and Customer Service that is unequaled in my experience. I've owned MT, Dalton, Benchmade, Italian stilettos, throw-away Chinese jobs and CRKT conversions and none can compare.
