Some of my favorite autumn edibles are ocoee, or passion fruit, and persimmons after the frost...the onions are handy too. What are some of your favorite edibles in your area?

Great pics. What camera are you using? I like to eat wild garlic or chives, sugarplums, wood sorel, spearmint and chew on sasafras (or make tea out of it) And I love the smell of hickory nuts that just fell from the tree---I wish I had pics for ya but everything is brown here-lol

yummy i call those may pops! and yummy wood sorrels my favorite :) getting too cold for me to look for most those in the wild round here. A few paper mulberries have held on to some of there fruit this year. if you havent tried paper mulberry fruit its quite good and completly different from the regular mulberry but a pain to eat. they are one of the most unique looking fruits to me. theres still wild plantain dandelion and dock spread about. crab apples are doing good this time of year. also i love some persimmons.

I can tell you Mist that I am out every Saturday looking for these two. Nothing yet, these are from the spring. They are coming any day, maybe after next rain.

a thickly sliced porcini grilled cheese may be my choice for last meal on earth.

This is an area I'm completely lacking in. I've always wanted to get a good book on wild edibles, and head out to try and find some. Good thread Mist.

I love persimmons, but don't have them growing wild in my area. For fall fruits I love false solomons seal, wild grapes, autumn olive, multiflora rose hips, and wintergreen berries. The fall growth of dandelion, stinging nettles, and chickweed are also good. Oh yeah, and almost forgot one of my absolute favorites - black nightshade berries (Solanum nigrum). Wherever these pop up as weeds in my yard, I let em grow!

Hickory nuts are a favorite and plentiful, the persimmons are perfect right now but you have to beat the raccoons to them.

if you beat the racoons enough, those are edible too i hear :)

Great pics and info, mistwalker.

I'm waiting for durian to come back into season so I can shoot a few.

We were pretty rough on the Durians around here. I don't expect them back for a while.

Thanks guys, some really good responses. I forgot all about the Black Walnuts that were in my pocket...another one of my favorites, pics of that when I post the thread from the outing the above pics came from.. I do love hickory nuts, but man they are a lot of work for what you get out of them.

And yes, Raccoon is definitely edible, but I prefer it barbecued!

I wish we had pheasant here, and still had quail. The coyotes wiped out the quail population...stupid ground nesting birds. Jeeeez you'd think they'd learn to nest a little higher....

We have apple trees in the woods around here and on old farms. I always check them out when I'm in the woods to see if they are ready to eat when I'm out hunting.
