Has anyone hear ever had to go deal with this condition?
About 2 months ago I underwent a CT scan of my pelvis. Fortunately, what was being looked for was not present. Unfortunately (but fortunately for detection), something else was possibly found. I was given a copy of the images and a report from the specialist as reported by the radiologist (I believe it was). In a nutshell it mentioned 25-50 percent AVN (Avascular Necrosis) in both hips.
I went back to my PCP who sent me for an MRI to confirm. Today the results confirmed Stage II AVN of the hips. I read that knees and shoulders can be affected. At this time I have knee, leg, and groin pain. Some days I feel okay, others I feel a steady and sometimes increasing internal pain that no medicated cream has been able to lessen. On the days that it hurts something bad I have a hard time walking normal. It keeps me up really late some nights. If I go bike riding I feel pain and pressure in my knees and hips. Swimming is the only thing that I have found to lessen the pain.
The next step is a referral to an Orthopedic Surgeon - I should hopefully receive a call back with the referral. By the time they took me it was late in the day today so it was not ready by the time I left.
I'm fairly young - 34 - and fall into the age range with a greater likelihood of occurrence. It looks like this may be a possible result of a great amount of steroids that I have had to take in numerous medications to treat my severe asthma since the end of December 2013 to present.
From what I gather hip and knee replacement may be inevitable, but certain things can be done for pain management before reaching stage IV. Just looking for somebody that has been through the process and can offer first hand experience or knowledge.
