I have a GEC #42 Missouri Trader in for repair. The lock was sticky and hard to disengage so I sent it back to the factory. It's been there since August 28, 2012.

Is this normal? If anyone else has sent a knife into GEC what have your wait times been? I'm written Chris multiple times (usually waiting 2-3 weeks between emails) and every time I get the same answer: "it's in the repair department."

I've sent a few knives back to GEC and the repair time has always been 4-6 weeks. I've got a knife there now but it has not yet been 4 weeks.

You're coming up on 3 months now that seems a bit long to me.

That is not my experience, but maybe some repairs require certain people to fix them and others not so much? I think after a few months a better explanation than "it's in the repair department" would be nice though.

I have sent a total of three knives in for repair to GEC.
One with a loose (extremely so) blade in 2008,
one with a cracked scale last year,
and I just had one recently arrive with a bent tip, and the dealer wouldn't exchange it so I had to send it in.

I always deal with Christine and got each one back perfectly repaired in about 2 weeks.

Good luck!

Christine just notified me that my #23 would go out today. They've had it 2 weeks. I've only dealt w/ her via email, but I'd suggest that you ring her.

Thanks for all the replies. I had a feeling my wait time was a little longer than normal.

Just my opinion but I think that amount of time is completely unacceptable.

I've only sent one knife in for a minor repair. The turnaround time was a little over ten weeks.

My wait time was six weeks. If yours has been there since Aug. you probably better call them and see what's up.

Darn shame. I own about 15 GEC's, and none have had to go in for repair. When I was visiting the factory this summer, I showed them two GEC's that I was happily carrying, and they volunteered to sharpen and polish the blades for me. Took all of five minutes, and free. Great Eastern is a great company, imo.

Oh I still like GEC. Chris said it'd be on its way back to me by next week. It wasn't a great experience but not one to sour me on the company forever.
