I posted this in the other AVG thread and now I'm sorry I recommended AVG.:(

Great idea! I've been running a paid version of AVG for quite awhile now and I really like it*....
*Except for the avgrsx.exe file using up so much of my CPU at times.
But it doesn't usually slow me down for very long although it seems to be at the times when I don't want it too the most but I've heard there's an update coming that's supposed to fix that, helluvait is not everyone has the problem.
But even at that it's still the best and fastest AV program I've ever had.
.... The AVG kept getting worse and worse about being a resource hog on my PC that I finally got rid of it three days ago, I hope - I keep finding AVG files laying around for some reason. :(
I'm trying Sunbelt's new Vipre Anti-Virus, in the last stage of Beta, in the meantime to see how it's going to be. So far it's doing an excellent job without using very much of my system's resources, fingers crossed.;)
If the free Comodo Anti-Virus comes out in time I *might* give it a try before I totally commit to Vipre although I've been very happy with Sunbelt and I know they stand behind their product!  :D

If you want to really get rid of any program in its entirety, including the registry files they leave behind. Download free Revo Uninstaller, Finally got rid of all the hidden and trash left behind by others. Great program, uses the programs own uninstallers, then runs scans of all the files they leave behind, I have found as many as 30 files left behind after a normal uninstall. Try it, you will like it.

put in avast if that one doesnt work out for you. its not a memory hog and works better than avg. i have been using ever since my friend and i built my system 6 years ago.

That's the helluvit Jim, I have the Revo Uninstaller and used it for the first time on the AVG. It did run AVG's uninstaller and then supposedly cleared the registry but when I started downloading Vipre I got the warning I already had an anti-virus program on my PC. I ignored it as I no longer had the AVG system tray or desktop icons.
It may have been something I did wrong but when I found some of the files later I went to my Add or Remove Programs and AVG was still there so I uninstalled it from there.
I detoured for a while and rechecked Revo and the A or R programs and no sign of AVG, but when I did a search on my C:\ drive I found a whole bunch of them.  I tried deleting some of them and succeeded until I got to the dll files and they wouldn't be deleted so I restored all the ones I did delete just in case they need to be there when I do find something to get rid of them.
At this point I think I'll contact AVG support and see if they have a registry cleaner program I can run. I'm beginning to think AVG may be as hard to get off your PC as AOHELL was/is.

What version are you running, the older version had a bad option at top of screen, that said remove entry. Did not remove programs, just their listing in Revo. The newer version does not have that. Anyway, I am sorry about your situation, if it were me, I would reinstall AVG and then use the newer version of Revo to uninstall it. Perhaps it will then find all the hidden dlls and other trash left behind.

Good Luck
Jim

Jim I have the Revo 1.71 version which is no doubt the latest as I haven't had it too long. I did use Revo to uninstall it the first time and thought it was successful but it could've been something I did as I don't know as much about PC's as I'd like too. I've about came to the conclusion that you're right about reinstalling AVG and then uninstalling it again, at this point I don't think I have any other options.:(
